Martinez: Everton players fear Goodison Crowd

Get knocked out on Wednesday he should be sacked but it's never going to happen. It's ridiculous with the squad of talent we have had in many many years and the way the league is this season, we are actually looking over our shoulders rather than challenging for 4th. Absolutely pathetic!

As probably one of the "older" observers of the forum, and as one who has witnessed cushions flying onto the pitch from both the Main Stand and The Bullens Road, and having stood on The Gwladys Street when there were 13,000 in the ground my take on this is......
It is the expectation and following on from that the dread that is tipping people over the edge at the moment! After RM's first season last year was disappointing to say the least but to a degree RM got a way with it saying Stones, Lukaku, Barkley and others were "young" players still learning their trade. We then got through the close season and the transfer window with them all still at the club and all of our expectations went through the roof! This season starts - Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U all struggling to a degree and our expectations rose as we were reminded about the "terrific, incredible, phenomenal" group of young players at Everton both by RM and to a lesser degree the media, this was a huge opportunity to watch this group of players (quite possibly the best squad we have had since the mid eighties!) start to achieve something special.
Unfortunately though we have witnessed a continuation of the poor results from last season along with the occasional blip (i.e Chelsea) just to keep our hopes up - Everton that!. We have a manager who continues to play a goalkeeper who clearly is not up to it and who quite clearly does not have the confidence of the defence, tactics at home in particular that are incapable of breaking teams down (particularly those that defend well, then break quickly!), team selection and substitutions that are often baffling, and the total inability to close games out. I could go on, but a run of 18 wins from 61 games says it all.
I've never ever booed a player or the team at a game and I won't start now, but dear god I'm getting frustrated this season!
The dread/fear element that is now becoming a huge factor is that if things continue as they are, and to be honest after yesterday I can't see it changing one bit, is that people are starting to realise that at the end of the season Lukaku, Stones, Mirallas, possibly Barkley, and to a lesser extent Deulofeu and McCarthy will all be off, and to be honest who would blame them? God forbid Howard is still here, but you just know Osman will be!
Sorry for the long post - it could have been a lot longer!!

It's a vicious circle in many ways and I'm sure the crowd's response is making things worse. I'm equally sure that the manager and the players could do things to improve the situation.
Yep. Everyone is totally right to expect players and the manager to be working to get things right, but if they are and things just don't go for us then that's time to except life isn't easy and just get on board with something

He's building a young talented squad here. We're knocking at the door of a cup final and are midtable.

You can be 100% sure that the club hierarchy aren't having the same conversation about the manager as these forums are having. Just like this time last season it isn't even registering with them. And rightly so. They watched what happened then so they know there's no panic whatsoever.

I agree with everything you say, but when things aren't going well, the crowd will normally react positively to a bit of intensity in the play, especially when we don't have the ball.

In the first half, there was precious little of that, which was partly due to enforced changes due to injuries and partly due to tactics or the players not following instructions, so I can see why there was booing at half time.

Second half, we were a lot better in terms of effort put in, and the booing was probably more for the result than anything.

Generally supporters will put up with a poor performance when they see the effort being put in. That doesn't mean we need to do a Dogs of War impersonation, but you do sometimes have to be seen to graft a bit on the pitch, even more so when you're not playing very well.
Yeah obviously a big tackle or a good spell of pressure gets the crowd going a bit but even then I remember Deulofeu doing just that, and there was a cheer, then back to absolute silence again.

Seems like the crowd have set their minds that they don't want Martinez and until he goes the boos won't stop, and as we know, he's going nowhere so it's an all round mess.

7000 of the supporters who were at the match today, will be at the Etihad on Wed. They don't go to boo or c

A chorus of boos at Old Trafford and Van Gaal comes out and says sorry to the fans for letting you down.
Martinez should be saying the same to Our supporters.

+1

I have supported Everton since the sixties and have seen heaven and hell in equal measure, but the one thing I cannot abide with this current situation is that everybody on the planet now knows how to play against us! Roberto does not strike me as a stupid man, so he must see this too, yet he does nothing to change things on the pitch? I see lots writing on her about the cup saving our season, does anybody here seriously think we can survive against Liverpools style? Fast, pressing football! Our Kryptonite this season, is Klopps stock in trade, so i see no opportunities for glory there, unless attandance at a final would suit some Evertonians even if it meant getting beat by the RS? Been there, done that,

This is why I say defeat in Wednesday night will not leave me as devastated as normal after losing a semi final.

I never want to see us beaten by the RS at Wembley ever again......leaving there in 1986 was my worst moment as a football fan.

Absolutely agree. I was there in '86 too. I'm hoping for a stoke victory tomorrow....

Utterly off his teats suggesting this, IMO he's merely trying to cushion the blow of any reaction to further vacuous performances at Home...

I genuinely feel he's had a pretty fair run at GP from the fan perspective, particularly in light of us pretty well being served up 18 months worth of the same. What's he expect? He's level 9 NUTS if he expects any different at this stage. Sunday felt like an approach to a 'final straw' scenario TBH, as if the crowd kinda collectively edged toward the - frankly - overdue realisation that there's simply no plan B nor alternative way he'll set up...

And if he keeps chattin' this sort of tired old wang after games then it's only gonna get more vitriolic.

And the constant churning of he's 'building something here'. Is he? He's building so well that he's failed to address a GK situation for YONKS now.

Final straw? How do you mean?

Are you suggesting Mcarthy Del Kev Stones Barkley Lukaku and Stones will leave in the summer?

...like there was a pretty unified move, crowd wise, to being wholly peeved with it all, like - y'know - like he simply can't really be defended further. That kinda thing.
Oh right. I thought you were referring to a final straw amongst the movers and shakers.
