I'll give you the first season alright. But it's the second and third seasons, where you opinions leave the realms of reality, and descend into fantasy land stuff. In that european campaign, we imploded in embarrassing fashion in Kiev.As for the two semi finals, sure there's no point getting to semi finals if your going to lose them.Although granted Lukaku did leave both Everton and Martinez down in that FA semi final against United. So yes the first season was a success, but the second and third seasons a success? To quote Roy Keane about that incident in the Highbury tunnel with Patrick Vierra, im not having that.
Yeah, mate. It was terrible getting to two SFs in one season and being the last English team in Europe in the other. I was mortified.

He was here three seasons. Was it a success? No. Was it a failure? No. We played some great stuff and did well in all the competitions we can enter in one of the seasons or other he was here.

That's it.

He did brilliantly well before us, and he's done great at Belgium.

All of that ^^^ is true.

Outside of a handful of bitter defeated Everton fans the whole world of football recognises that truth that Roberto is a very very good coach.

Also, and this is a genuine question, grateful for a clear answer. If martinez is a 'very very good coach' with one fa cup and a relegation to his name in football, who in current premier league do you also class as very, very good?

He's very good at public relations.

Tonight at the Diamond League in Brussels (well with a bunch of others, including Nafi Thiam etc...)

The day before he was the guest of honour for the opening of a new pitch for a team playing in the second lowest football division in Belgium. Only 6000 people live in that village. Very small football club in a backward corner (https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2018/0...ale-voetbalclub-herne-bondscoach-martinez-on/). It also included a speech about how football makes you a better person.

Look Dave the last 16 in europe, and losing two semi finals, is as far as im concerned about as much good as 7th or 8th place. At the end of the day Martinez won the same amount trophies for Everton, that David Moyes Billy Bingham and Gordon Lee did, and that was zero nada nothing!

Roberto is genuine. If it's public relations its with the good of the Belgian Football Association in mind and its them driving it. He's a willing participant to that because he's an evangelist for the game.

I dont thunk there's any doubt amongst either supporters or detractors that RM is a principled football man with the love of the game and playing it the right way uppermost in his mind. No wonder the Belgian football establishment have taken to him.

The CV (again)

Saved Swansea and gave them a blueprint to play football
Won an ale house team a major domestic trophy - their first (and probably last) ever
Set a PL season points and win record with Everton
Set national records with Belgium for an unbeaten run of games and gave them their best ever international tournament

...and you doubt he's a very very good coach.

Maybe its time you and others just accepted this overall assessment and stop your ridiculous (and fruitless) denial of it?

I'm genuinely interested though in your view wider than martinez to help understand what very very good looks like - any chance of an answer to the question?

I think this is why most would describe him as a failure at Everton.

List trophies with Wigan all you like (he got relegated by the way) and avoiding relegation (see Pullis and Allardyce for that blueprint), he won nothing at Everton, which by your standards, makes him a failure.

A refrain for Bobby (and @davek)...

Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
Rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
Come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

But never mind the bollocks, eh?
"here's the davek.... and his requiem for some dream".

There's only one refrain that works on a thread about the former Everton and curent FIFA Best Coach of the Year short-listed manager:

"Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot."
