Which boxes does he tick apart from being Spanish? He’s won an FA cup and been relegated. Those to date are his most notable achievements.

He also failed to get to the World Cup final with the best squad in the tournament.

Well, adding to what I already mentioned over his ability to inflate egos, this, mainly;

You don't have to be defensively 100% all the time as Barcelona manager, he's grand at the rest of the game. He'll do well there as long as there are no rats in the dressing room.......

So yeah, I think he'll do well initially, before their players find him tedious.

Everywhere he's gone he's set records for his club / national team.

We'll never see 21 wins in a season again for the foreseeable. Bank on that.

Good luck at Camp Nou, Roberto. Where you belong with class players and people who understand football.

Meanwhile his vanquished detractors on the GOT forum sit in the foetal position, rocking backwards and forwards and comforting themselves that they were "right".

Lol.

Getting your gloating in a bit too early Dave: he's not been appointed yet.

Surely you don't believe what these lazy journalists write? Allegri - successful in Italy and available: Emery successful in Spain and Spanish; Fat Ron ex-Barca player and a manager; El Gaffer Catalan and a manager.

Meanwhile, I haven't noticed you mentioning his 'record-breaking' season at Everton too much recently, and your dogged refusal to accept that the Moyesiah's 4th place was actually our best ever finish, rather than 'El Maestro's' 72 points. Or would you still prefer to finish 2nd with 97 points rather than being Champions with 81 points, as Leicester were?

Will be official shortly. Valverde will be sacked today, fortunately. Unfortunately, Roberto Martinez appears to be the frontrunner to take over with Henry

Just the first step, next has to be Segura's removal - rumours of Jordi Cruyff as a possible replacement, hope that is true

“Unfortunately”. Ignore the majority of bitter meffs on here. He’ll do very well for you.

People are desperate to be right. It's weird.

I actually think he did fail at Everton in the end personally, but that doesn't make him a bad manager, all managers mess up at some point. A poor season and a half at us shouldn't mark his cards for life. Some people just can't let go of it though.
I don't think he's the worst we've ever had, I lived through Walter Smith, but he's not exactly some kind of managerial god.

ETA: Henry? Seriously? As in the bloke who got sacked from Monaco?

In this day and age people use Google for everything. So the barca owners went onto Google and seen the overwhelming amount of praise by the data produced online by davek and mistaked him for millions of people. It's the only explanation.

I liked his first year for Everton but honestly I did not follow much after that and cannot say too much about his resume otherwise. The bigger issue, for me, is that he has zero experience coaching in the Primera

Most have Mike Walker as being worse, out of post-war managers - but it's close. I'd rate El Gaffer as the worst, but recognise it's a narrow decision - there's good arguments to be made on both sides of that one.

Big potential difference between the two is how they responded to their failures at Everton - Walker had worked miracles at Norwich (actually a different level to what Martinez ever achieved) so in principle you might have thought he could bounce back, just one bad appointment that didn't work out. But it actually broke him and he was out of top flight management for good. Martinez has also been out of top flight management for a number of years, with his Belgian sinecure, but is clearly working hard to keep his profile out there. So he's at least talking a good game about getting back in the dugout.
