LEAVE MARTINEZ OUT OF IT. He did fine. Performance wise and finance wise. Koeman did neither.

And we are destroyed as a club with elite pretensions because Koeman basically took £200M we needed to make the leap into the top level and shovelled it into a furnace. He's put us a decade back. At least.
You can't be serious?! This is the Martinez thread ffs! :hayee:

If we're "destroyed" as a club it certainly didn't happen because of Koeman or Martinez or Moyes or Smith or Walker or any other manager. Our problems as a club go way deeper then that and to pretend that our club was destroyed because of a bad period and three transfer windows under Koeman/Welsh is absurd.

This is untrue. He shovelled £6m on Kone, £13m on McCarthy in 2013. £4m for Besic in 2014. £9.5m for Funes Mori in 2015. £13.5m for Niasse in 2016. How much do you think these money are worth in today’s market? About £100m+on these lot do you realise? Oh and he handed Garbutt and Galloway (£1.5m in 2014) these long 5 year contract and Baines is still doing fine as back-up, if you compare with those two.

Do the overall maths - incoming / outgoing.

If you think Martinez brought Everton into financial dire straits you need to think again. That's a fallacy.

I think he is just as guilty as Walsh and Koeman for wasting cash on some crap players.

Best football played since the 80s
Highest number of wins in a season since the 80s
Highest points total since the 80s
FA Cup SF spot
LC SF spot

...in three seasons.

Finance-wise:

Three season here:

£97M spent on players
£125M cash brought in from sale of Martinez players (thus far with more to come)
= Martinez player transactions net gain of £28M.

Read it and weep.

I was talking to a couple of Club Brugge fans at a party last night who genuinely believe his position with Belgium is under threat... Because Barcalona want him.

Agreed, football was incredible when we were losing 0-2 against Hull on a late night in November.

Best football played since the 80s - That's a matter of opinion. We played very well in some games, but even in his first season we had a fair number of games where we were dire. As for his last few months, the less said the better.
Highest number of wins in a season since the 80s - also the worst home record in our history.
Highest points total since the 80s - two bottom half finishes in three seasons after inheriting a team consistently finishing in the top 6 - 8.
FA Cup SF spot - so what? We beat one good team on the way to the semi.
LC SF spot - again, so what? We had a relatively easy ride to the semi-final, and besides, who remembers losing semi-finalists? Without checking, can anyone name the teams who lost in the semis in last season's LC?

It's just a matter of holding up the score card of things achieved versus failures. It's not a massive success story, but equally it's not a massive failure.

Some people cant accept grey areas. It's zero sum: either fantastic or rubbish.

It makes no sense to me. Whatsmore, his time before and after Everton underlines just what a good coach the feller is.

I dont get the dwindling band of refuseniks who cant accept all that. I never will.
