2021/22 Mason Holgate

Not quite sure why people want to sell him. He's a good age, English (for homegrown rules), versatile and hardly put a foot wrong during our relegation fight. Ideally he would be a squad option and not first choice but he's certainly worth keeping at the moment.

No we can't and I'm not sure we need to. I think better quality in a couple of areas will change the dynamic of the side massively. One of those areas is definitely centre half though, so I find it slightly odd that there was a rush of people saying keep him he's fine etc because he's not really. I get that he isn't the worst player in the world to have on the bench, but neither are any of the others to be fair. Some of them have to go, and i'd be no more inclined to keep Holgate than I would any of the other centre halves.

Yea totally mate.
I think what you say is recency bias. 3 months ago Holgate wasn't good enough for the championship and then he becomes first choice. Neither are probably true.
I happen to think he's just a bit too small to play at CB, and he doesn't have any other outstanding attributes to help cover for that. He's not quite quick enough, or good on the ball enough to justify it. Godfrey is similar height, and I have concerns, but he is a lot quicker, and better on the ball.
That being said, if we want to move Keane and Mina on, I can't see us replacing Holgate too. I'm personally open to selling all of our CB's for different reasons, but know you can't replace them all in 1 summer. If someone was offering me 5-10m for Holgate he would be gone, but I just don't see it. So the best I can hope, is he gets demoted to being a squad player.

I would be amazed if that transpired. The question may be, would we take 5m?
really?
I'd have him in the 20m range.
Young, English defender who can play at center back, full back, and has the potential to be a decent holding midfielder.
He did really well when called upon while Keane's form was up and down and Mina was a sick note.
There's talk of Everton getting Anthony Barry in, I think someone like Holgate could thrive under a decent defensive coach.

He'll be here next season. Frank likes him and he stepped up during that final stretch when we could have easily gone down on the health of Mina's legs alone. The key is upgrading so that he isn't first choice. Very good backup and fits the 3 at the back system that Frank likes (and that I generally hate).

I'd sell Keane before him at the moment

I don't see it with him mate. I think he's very average.
