yeh i dont understand if we were interested in another young centreback/rightback why we didnt go for gomez. hes clearly the superior player at the minute.
Cost 3.5 million rising to 5 plus a sell on.
If we got Holgate for 1 million rising to 2 million that's a good deal if they have a similar ceiling.

Blackett and McNair were in UTD youth from young ages.

For Barnsley it makes more sense to sell to Everton rather than UTD because theres a chance with a sell on clause that if these players perform they may be sold on e.g £60mil for Stones could net Barnsley £10mil. However if they go to UTD and dont have game time and or perform very well then UTD would sell them on the cheap or keep them.

For Holgate, do you think he could make a career as a right back or strictly as a centre back as he develops? Also is he someone who could play alongside Stones or would be too similar of a player perhaps and also would play in the same position really at right sided centre back...

Yeah to be honest I do for a couple of reasons, Holgate could've gone to Man Utd for status & money and basically chalked fook it on his career, but of biting off more than he can chew he's doing what I think is the right way, he's stayed in north near family who can keep him grounded, and to a club steeped in tradition and a track record of giving youth a genuine chance to succeed, and with the way our club are selling our kids with sell ins we are doing it right by selling to teams like Everton in 4/5 years time third a real chance the England team could have 2/3 players in it that came through the ranks at Oakwell, and it'll be down the way they have managed their development, first team footballer at 18 for 20 odd game then moving to a club who are committed to helping them develop even further, before attracting the likes of Chelsea, I think Tyler Blacket & Paddy McNair have the potential to be top players but they've done it the wrong way if they'd gone down the route Stones had they both be better players today and in the first team in a villa Everton Newcastle Spurs side learning and developing into players team like Chelsea would be trying to buy for £30 million, but they've gone to a top four side too soon.

Cant fault our defensive signings under Moyes (Kroldrup) or Martinez (Alcaraz) as for real money they always perform very well indeed and if not are shipped out for low monetary cost.

Alot of credit has to go to the scouts here as we have an amazing track record of buying from the lower leagues and turning players into internationals.

I imagine this sort of thing was said when Stones signed. I think history tells us the manager and scouting staff know more about our signings than we do. Likewise fans of Barnsley and Wolves (Lescott) who made comments in here after we signed their prized assets.

Both played about the same amount of club games but Gomez has a load of england youth appearances...

In the grand scheme of things another £3.5mil should have been spent to get Gomez as well as Holgate.

Oh dear, Bob's at it again!

"Mason, at 18, has already played 20 games in League One and that shows the potential he has," Martinez added.

"He will be a phenomenal young prospect coming into that golden generation we feel we have at the club and he will be a good one for the future."

Holgate, Stones, & Bree. Were all courted by the big boys, At a young age, Bree as turned Utd twice, most recently last year at 16 years old, in favour of first team Mr football, all three have turned top clubs down to get first team football, they were first team regulars when they left, first choice at a league club at the age of 18, they chose to stay at Barnsley for their development, the Utd lads we're talking about could've started at any Championship league one club in North west and played games but they haven't, and for me that's why stones as developed far quicker then them, Holgate will past them by in a couple of years too because he's doing it the right way. In next two years Holgate will play more first team games then them two, that'll be the reason he'd turned Utd down last month, He as a plan to be come a professional footballer as quick as possible, and it'll work like it as for stonesy, he's too good at centre half to be left a right back.

This Bree chap, ive seen you write on or two things about him possibly being top notch.

You mention he turned down UTD a couple of times for first team football. If we went in for him now do you think he would also turn us down or see that he's following a career path like Stones potentially (like Holgate has)?

Or do you think this is possibly someone who may be a target in a year or so for us?

He's 17 years old and only played 13 times for us, he came through before Holgate when he was 16 but fractured his back last season, So Holgate came in for him, if he develops as he is he'll be world class, he's all the tools to be the next Gareth Bale again we're starting him at right back as we did Stones & Holgate but unlike them he'll not be a central defender, he'll be a attacking player. I can't see him leaving just yet he's our first choice right back now Holgate as left, I think he'll have a season of first team football see how is fitness goes and listen to offers next summer or January 2017

Who bree

If both he and Holgate have both been playing right back then when Bree came back to fitness was holgate still the 1st choice?

No Bree was, but Holgate had already decided it was time to move on and was pushing to leave, but I think Bree would have come back in anyway he's special, Holgate as left this year because he only had a year left on his contract, had it been longer and he'd not been speaking to clubs I think he'd would have been left here another year or so to develop, but he's pushed to leave early.
