No Bree was, but Holgate had already decided it was time to move on and was pushing to leave, but I think Bree would have come back in anyway he's special, Holgate as left this year because he only had a year left on his contract, had it been longer and he'd not been speaking to clubs I think he'd would have been left here another year or so to develop, but he's pushed to leave early.

No they're too good to stay with us, as long as we get a good wack up front and a decent sell on clause, I think most Barnsley fans like me would like them to go to a club where they'll get game time. So we can still monitor their progress from afar. And will them on to be grates so we get another wedge. If they leave to get lost in a big clubs reserves for 5 years then it's a waste and kick in teeth when we could have been playing him .

Bit of a good point there!
With Liverpool selling Sterling on and QPR getting a great sell on fee, & when we sell Stones to Barca next summer for a great sell on fee, will clubs like Barnsley look at that when they are selling a player?
Lets say Holgate went to Chelsea and became amazing, he wouldn't really get sold anywhere would he?
And if he was sitting in the reserves for 5 years they would move him on for nothing which means no sell on fee

Yes Man Utd last summer he was informed of the interests, he turned it down flat said he didn't want to go and he will be signing for Barnsley when he left School and that's what he did.

Honestly think Barnsley should get first pick of any youth prospects we have to go on loan as well. Good little relationship developing and your academy is producing some great talent, especially at the back.

If you start standing in the way of players, then why would people send their kids to our academy if we have a track record of standing in the way of young men's chance at the big time, we're a small club with a fantastic training ground and facilities (Google Oakwell images) very good coaches at youth level and we're proving with stones and Holgate that young players can come here earn their wings and fly off to a Club like Everton, but because we know we cant stand in their way if we want to attract other young kids and their parents to the club we're not really getting market value for the players, that's where the sell on fees come from and the add ons, They're a must for us when selling kids on to big clubs, and it's seems something Everton are happy with which is brilliant for us.

The way John Stones plays is a credit to himself and your coaches at Barnsley.

If Mason Holgate is half as good it will be fantastic.

As others have said it would be a fine thing to have an informal relationship with a club such as yours which is instilling good football values into it's young players

Watched the U21s until the missus put the boot in as she wanted Corrie & Bake off.

From the 25 minutes I saw (RS 0-2 up - first a dodgy pen given away by our new man. Outside the box but its the RS ....) and he's a long way off the 1st team at the moment. Matthew Pennington would be ahead by a street at the moment. Geraint Jones look good defensively at Right Back.

Even though he gave away a (weak) penalty, he was one of the best players on the pitch.

Looks like a really good prospect - for sure. Brought the ball out of defence with confidence, block a lot of shots and even had a good strike at goal from distance.

Definitely see why he has been brought to the club.
