After the shaky start he got better and better and was the stand out player for me.

Looked cool on the ball, was in the right place at the right time and oozed confidence. Wouldn't have a problem with him being back up to Coleman this season from what I saw last night.

I was impressed with him particularly in the second half, wasn't flustered and looked composed on the ball and commanding in the air - despite not being the tallest.

I told you all this early on in this thread, the kid is class, he's been playing at right back for us so he can, develop in confidence on the ball, before moving inside, all our young players are comfortable on the ball it's the way they're coached at a young age, happy to use both feet to get out of tight areas too. His hight isn't a problem because of his movement and footballing intelligence is top draw.

Maybe we should be signing your scouts and coaching staff to save us a bit of money!

Did you watch the game last night? What did you think of Holgate's performance? Normal for him?

No he made more doggy decisions in first half then he as for us, he got sent off last year away at Doncaster for a rush of blood to the head, playing against his home town team he wanted to impress and he tried too hard and made a rash decision, and when he gave penalty away on his Everton U21's debut I thought dear me he's making same mistakes here, he should be learning from, he's a young kid he'll make plenty more, but he did look more like his more composed self afterwards but it wasn't one of his better games. He looked to be trying harder then ever last night, but normally it's just so simple to him, may be it was down to fact he was playing centre half for first time in a while.

Thanks for the review, I'm surprised you thought it wasn't as good as normal because I thought he looked quality (apart from the penalty obviously), but if he is normally more composed than that then it can only be good news. From the looks of it I think he'll find the U21 league too easy once he's settled into the team but that's no surprise when you've been developing him in your first team until recently.

He had a cracking shot from long range in the second half that the keeper only just about got to. Is he normally one to have a pop from range or was that more of a one-off?

He used to love a pop in youth teams, when playing central, seen him trouble keeper a few times in U21 & U18 games from distance, not so much so in first team playing on right though.

Exactly what I said in the match thread.

I was well impressed with him, very composed on the ball.

Looked a tad exposed with Wilson's speed, then again Wilson did seem exceptionally nippy.

Would like to see him bulk up a bit.
