That Garbutt kid is one of the best players I've seen down Oakwell this year, he played for England under 21s In a friendly, he was man of the match by a country mile for me that night. Not really seen much of him since or before but he's one I'll be keeping a eye out for after the performance.

That is high praise indeed matey. I am not sure I'd quite go that far but he has a lot of ability. He reminds me quite a bit of how Stones was when he first came in. He is very graceful on the ball, tall and technically a very good footballer. He is a confident lad but not quite as much as Stones is.

Like Stones occasionally he would be shown up a bit defensively. Unfortunately he has England's left back ahead of him so doesn't;t have as many easy opportunities.

Going back to Holgate though, I really liked what I saw from him. Like Stones he has an arrogance, he is quick and looks to play out. He may well make mistakes but under the current management they will be excused.

All the while we have Martinez I am quietly optimistic about our prospects. I think they will be afforded time to grow and develop. The worry will be if a new regime comes in and starts looking for more instant results.

So is Bree a right back primarily , or also midfield? RB is a position of strength for us re youngsters who play there for their country's age group e.g Kenny, Yates , Holgate (England) and Jones Wales.Plus Pennington and Browning who can and have played RB although like Holgate are seen as CHs.

Like Stones & Holgate before him Bree is just finding his feet at right back, learning his trade in a position where he'll not be too exposed, and can progress in a position that allows him time on the ball. And teaches him both the attacking and defending side of the game and offers him a little cover with the winger and holding midfielder covering him, but like them two he's not going to be a right back but unlike them he's not going to be a central defender he'll end up as a attacking midfielder/ winger .

Interesting, thanks for the info mate. Does he look out of place at RB?

No all our young players look comfortable on the ball, looking for options rather then panicky punts up field, they're all encouraged to use both feet and Play themselves out of trouble, mistakes are seen as a important part of the learning curve rather then being frown upon, so they can express themselves 100% that's why us Barnsley fans feel confident predicting how good they'll be because confidence is bred into them at a really young age, so none of them look out of place at all when they make the step up to the first team. You can see he's better at passing and crossing then a typical left/right back though.

Last week our owner had a meeting with the fans, he said it was us who approached Everton and asked them to take Holgate, as he wouldn't sign a new deal with us, and other clubs where using that to shaft us, so we turned to Everton knowing that they'd play fair and pay us the going rate as well as future payments and a sell on fee,

To answer the question about my opinion on Brees potential, I honestly think he'll be the best player we've ever had if he continues to develop as he is, he came into our team as a sixteen year old so he's already 2 years in front of Stones & Holgate, he's having injury problems due to growing spurts and it may hamper is development but if he realises his potential he'll be world class .
Good to hear that mate - not only is it ethically the right thing to do but believe it makes long term business sense to build a good relationship between the two clubs that can be mutually beneficial.

Reading between lines from what I've heard second hand, the offer to buy the clause in the stones deal was made in case we was depending on the money because Everton knew they'd not be selling him this summer, obviously it would have benefited both parties had we needed the money this summer, we'd have got the cash and Everton would have saved a bit if they eventually sell him for more than offerS made this summer, but we chose to sit tight.

Any further updates on Holgate? Has he been playing right back or centre back?

How does he look compared to Stones/Galloway/Browning at this stage of his career development? Could he be knocking on the door of the first team anytime soon.....

What a conveyor belt we have now.
