Mason Holgate

He is still a kid, no club throws kids straight in for extended periods unless they have to. We didn't have to because we had an experienced, talented full back to step back in. This isn't unusual to Koeman it's the way most managers always deal with the situation.

Didn't hurt double winning Man United in 1996 like...

I suppose Alex Ferguson wasn't like most managers though, so you may have a point

I will mate

Happy for the lad

Here's hoping the other young defenders get more of a chance once they're fit as well ;)
Should are should never have been dropped from the team in the first place, no coincidence he was in the side when we had those good run of results at the start of the season. Sad that it has taken an injury to get a look in again.

Yawn, you hate young players, we get it :zzz::zzz:

Not once said a bad word about young Mason, I rate the lad very highly.

I think that if a player is performing then it's not right to boot them as soon as the other player is fit

You should have to earn your place, even if that's just from training well and showing you want it

Clearly Coleman showed it in training then.

In my book Koeman has a responsibility to keep Holgate in the team. If you get the chance and play really well you should be there until 1) your performance levels drop off or 2) the person that you replaced is now showing something else the team needs.

What does it say to any of our other youngsters if you get a chance and play a blinder but you are still going to be left out of the team the next week, if that is the case why bother playing out of your skin in the first place? Competition is key to drive the team forward.

I would like to see Holgate at centre back partnering Williams.

I wouldn't want Holgate anywhere near CB yet. The lad hasn't got very good heading ability. Martial was giving him a tough time in the air and Holgate had to revert to making a back to put Martial off as he couldn't challenge him in the air. Holgate looks a cracking player who will hopefully get even better but still has much to learn before getting a CB spot

If Holgate is to play at CB, think it has to be in a three.

He's still very raw and his positioning may leave Williams exposed, as it did against Norwich.

That been said, he played excellently today and he's as reliable back-up RB as we've had in years at this stage.

If Coleman is out next week there's no doubting this lad can step up to the plate.

How does it show him up exactly? He has picked him , praised him , included him in the squad and played him . He is following the accepted pathway for a young player being gradually brought into a team. Why start him over Coleman who is an experienced talented PL full back, especially when Holgate is primarily a CB. It's particularly ironic that Coleman was once in the same position with us crying for him to get more game time, yet when he got it he still made mistakes. Now Coleman is not flavour of the month in true fashion people turn on him and demand the latest young player replace him. In 8 years time you'll probably be criticising Holgate and demanding the latest young thing replace him forthwith, pathetic.
Ahem.....that said Holgate is brilliant and yes I'd like to see Davies used more.

Koeman said during the week that the young players were not ready to play yet.

Last premier league game holgate started he was man of the match.

Coleman isnt 'flavour of the month' as hes been poor for over 2 seasons.

You just said what i posted was 'pathetic' then agreed with me...wtf

If theres a better player than Holgate in 8 years or whenever then yes i will want him replaced....common sense.

This doesnt make any sense Zat.

Koeman has kept Holgate on the bench all season, when Coleman was injured earlier on in the season Holgate was the first player he turned to, along with today.

You act like Koeman only plays Holgate when he doesnt have a choice, but today he had the club captain and James Mccarthy on the bench, both who could have come on before Holgate, yet Holgate was who he turned to.

He didnt have a choice...the choice was Jags or McCarthy on instead of Holgate.

Holgates more of a RB for me, like i keep saying, hes so good there.
