Tough game for young Mason tonight, wouldn't worry though as he must be learning a great deal about siuations like that.

New learning curve for him tonight with Stoke just lobbing balls in, he'll take that on board and work on it.

He had a bit of a 'mare in the first half but he's only twenty and will hopefully learn quite a bit from tonight.

Think Williams is just as much as fault as Holgate. Williams got pulled towards the ball to support Holgate and didn't look behind him and see Crouch sneaking in behind. Lord knows what Funes Mori was doing as well.

Think Holgate has the potential to be a great player for us but he does get caught ball watching a lot!!!

...basics to be caught out by one long ball over the top, he seemed rattled by that and was poor last night. I presume it was a tactical decision to take him off.

Wasn't at the game but from what I saw, he struggled. First time he's shown any weakness in an Everton shirt - and everyone is allowed a bad day. It will do him some good and he'll come back much stronger for the experience. If we play Stoke away at exactly the same time next year, I'd put money on Holgate having a stormer!

They targeted him and as he's not that experienced and he struggled, having said that Anouchovic was offside for their goal. He learn, still a young kid, also played them onside at one point

Nothing wrong with Holgate last night. The lad isn't world class and far too inexperienced so bound to have nights like that.

You would hope that this is a experience for him that he can learn from which is better than having him on the bench and not learning at all

Young players get dug out for these types of mistakes, but to be honest I've lost count of Everton centre backs who struggle to deal with long diagonal high balls and tall target men. Jags and Distin at their peak got regularly undone by straight balls down the middle of the pitch. I would have preferred Koeman to move him to RB and hook Coleman but no reason for Holgate to lose confidence.

Definitely this. Same will happen to Davies (might not due to him being actual god).
