Mayor's Bramley Moore Dock Open Letter To Evertonians

I've wondered this season how West Ham managed to get into such a terrible situation with an awful stadium with no revolt from the fans. The club seems ruined in one fell swoop and I don't remember a peep out of the fans.

I think it's much better fans are all over this kind of thing early, because this is absolutely huge and needs to be done right. On this subject I'd prefer the fanbase wet the bed and cause a scene and have egg on their faces afterwards when everything is fine, rather than saying it will be fine and we move to a stadium that changes the club completely and mostly or totally for the worst.

Because they accepted sound bites by politicians and the clubs regime at face value.

They were also getting a tremendous "deal" by the tax payer, and also in competition with Spurs/Orient. West Ham eventually "winning" because of the Athletics track legacy.

Less of the bedwetters, soft lad.

As for Man City's Etihad, have you ever been?! I'm not a fan. It doesn't have the steep stands the clubs architect keeps promising. In fact, it does exactly what I said is the only way football grounds replace athletic space - notice the angle/steepness of the lower tier.

City accepted this compromise before they had their money;

Personally I havent been, but people who I know say it isn't that bad.

Both this and the olympic stadium were built for athletics first then football. Ours is the other way around. In that pic of the Etihad, the seats are on top of the track (i think) where as ours, the track will be on top of the lower seats.
Unless LCC are planning on spending tens of millions on our stadium, Evertons preferences will be the priority and the club has been pretty clear about what it wants.

If that is the plan - basically a giant plank across the bottom 10-15m of the stadium to artificially expand the place, fine. But if so I'd like confirmation that is the case as soon as possible, and I'll be (rightfully) concerned until I see it.

Aye, but if you look at their design the lower 'stands' aren't really stands at all - they're structures built 'on' the pitch.

I'd prefer us to avoid that if at all possible due to the dissipation of the atmosphere.

I'm as much a dope as nearly everyone else here, but wonder if a collapsing retractable stand is possible (like on basketball courts)

Obviously on a different scale, but same idea?

Nevertheless, I trust Dan

I just can't see it mate.

If it happens the backlash would be too much. It's a football stadium. I honestly have no idea how they would fit a track in it but it doesn't worry me.

I think Tubes has a point tbh, as if they're going to care if we kick off

We need a new ground and we're going to keep going, especially if the new ground coincides with us getting better results on the pitch

I'm sure the club see this as a "necessary evil" to get things over the line (No pun intended)

The natural inclinations of some evertonians to literally doubt everything they are told never ceases to amazing. In a premier league table of "trust issues", we would be champions every season.

I'm sure it is, but that would still result in a very shallow "plate" like design that bulbs in and out, dissipating the atmosphere.

That is not a purpose built stadium for football - it'd be like the Etihad but with retractable seats. Some may say that's not a bad thing, but that's not the point, as it would not be 'replicating' the intimacy of Goodison, and that's the word Anderson has used.

Feels like a bit of a let down this. I suppose it's a case of waiting to see the designs, the architect has been adamant from day one about the intimate feeling of the stands towards the pitch and to have a 400m track around seems a hard thing to achieve both.

I was dreaming of a stadium with 4 different stands and maybe the corners filled in as though they were an afterthought, a totally unique design.

Exactly this.

It would have to be revolutionary, an absolute first.

We've been the first for a lot of things over the years mate and maybe this could be one of those situations.

I think what might happen is Everton or Meis will be pushed to release some form of drafts/designs to show their intention and pr9ve how this type of thing would be viable.

I certainly don't think Meis would have got a text last night saying "we are going for the CWG so we need you to scrap your original design and make it work with a track". I'm sure this must have been in the original design remit that this was a possibility.

Let's hope Everton have got this and if it does come off, it's a first and is revolutionary

Yea, just guess work on my part as I can't see them designing for retractable or removable seating for a one off event.

What do the club get from compromising/working around the challenge of athletics to accommodate Liverpool's 2022 bid?
