McCarthy to replace Fellaini?

Would love to see him here and playing the same against MU this season (y)

Did I miss something in that video.

I saw a player who is reasonably tidy in possession, playing a lot of neat square passes but lacking any creativity in the final third.

Honestly think someone like Lundstram from the reserves could do this type of job just as well.

Not the most exhilirating of videos! Of course he can hold the ball and make the simple pass - but so could Rodwell and we laughed when we got £12m for him. So to pay anything like that for McCarthy will mean it would be us getting ripped off this time. £8m tops.

Looks a poor mans Joe Allen

I don't think McCarthy will replace Fellani, if anything he might be brought into replace Osman as his performances has dipped of recent.

Fellani though clearly doesn't suit our new style, we are trying to play fast football now and he isn't that sort of player and never will be. So I expect him to leave with a decent offer (25 mil will do) and then buy someone else, Barry is a good shout but he is getting on.

To be honest McCarthy is alright, but when the papers and media say 15-20 million it puts me off big style. For around 15 million you could have got Chadli and Capoue,

Is right.

McCarthy is not worth THREE times as much as Diame, or 60% more than Capoue, or 40% more than Medel, or as much as Dembele. £15m is an absurd price and I applaud Dave Whelan for sticking to his guns - he's showing Kenwright how you deal with an unwanted interest in one of your players.

£15m on one transfer is only warranted if the player concerned is going to have a BIG impact on your first XI; if he won't, then it should be put towards two or more decent squad players, and we all know we need more strength in depth.

That £15m could pay the transfer fee for Diame (£5.5m allegedly) and the loan fees for the likes of Moses and Lukaku (or Ba), possibly covering the wages for all three for a year too.

Diame + Moses + Ba/Lukaku + their wages for a year is a VASTLY better deal than £15m for McCarthy on his own.

All valid points but also in a way invalid. Those players are no longer available...so we cant say if we sell felli we SHOULD HAVE bought x,y and z.

If wr can pick up McCarthy for around 12m then im good with that. Getting board of people complaing about the first two games which Martinez had played with Moyes team...but when he finds the players to pkay HIS system...hes not given a chance. If he thinks that McCarthy is worth the money the so be it...lets judge him onces hes had a season at least.

If we were to get McCarthy and another more attacking mf with the money...i would be chuffed...but what ever happens im looking forward to seeing a Martinez player in his team.

Diame is widely-reported to have a release clause in the region of £5m. McCarthy does not seem to be any better a player than Diame, therefore I see no sense in paying £7m extra for McCarthy. That £7m could be used elsewhere. The other players were listed simply to provide a frame of reference re the going rate for midfielders.

Having said all that, if we somehow get £30m - £35m for Felli, I would be less annoyed about spending a bit more on McCarthy, say £8m or £9m..... but £15m is bonkers, verging on Joe Allen / Jordan Henderson proportions.

McCarthy does not seem to be any better a player than Diame,

That is, quite frankly, a load of rubbish.

1.) They're totally different players
2.) Spurs are supposedly in for McCarthy, why is this?
3.) Martinez managed them both, yet seemingly has no interest in Diame, what does this tell you?

I actually quite like Diame, for the record, but he's not the same kind of player nor does he have half of the potential.
