Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

About 20 years ago, my late Mam (a Dubliner) was shopping with my brother's US (2nd) wife - he's on his third now!! lol I'm quite happy".

Anyway Valerie was admiring something that my mother thought was horrible and grossly overpriced. She said to her "Are you mad?" Valerie responded"No, I'm not mad

In US mad is interpreted as being angry.

Similarly I was at the Oktoberfest in 87, and I was chatting to some Aussies and Kiwis at Thalkirchen campsite, where I was staying, and i said 'was really pi*sed last night to which they all replied 'oh. what happened to upset you mate?" :p

For antipodeans, it means angry or fed up. For me it was the explanation for my hangover.
My favourite one is fanny. In the US it means your bottom as in they have fanny packs where we have bum bags. Obviously in the UK totally different!

People swear, but mostly in jest. If anyone swears in front of my wife I will suggest they don’t, in as nice away as possible. The guy in question was swearing in an aggressive manner and continued even when pulled up. It’s a small intimate pub, customers don’t want it, it’s offensive to most ladies on a night out, and even though it would no longer even register with my wife, I think it shows a lack of respect. Harsh maybe, but that’s the standard we apply….

Edit… even some of our male customers were unhappy and would willingly have thrown him out….
There is a time and place etc and it does seem as if this particular individual was unable to read the room.

I like that your pub is self regulated by customers. All the best ones are when you have cultivated that shared community spirit.

All the best to you and your family Pete.

Mrs BR's birthday today.

Miss BR, her rs fiance and I are bringing her here this evening :)

A lovely restaurant across the Parade from Kilkenny Castle.
Looks a lovely spot that! Hope you all enjoy your evenings.

Lanyard is another word which amuses me like I’m 12. For most people it is the string around your neck that you connect a security pass to. Something very different in Irish slang, maybe even UK slang too.

The day I was asked if I would like a rainbow lanyard nearly resulted in me needing oxygen.

….reports that a man has been shot with a crossbow in County Armagh, you take care when you go out

Early bird to 6.30 pm is very reasonable.

Always enjoy going there for a change from our usual Indian Which is my favourite kind of food.

We have a lady whose father was Lebanese they gave us some wine years ago ,I thought you might like it as it seemed very French to us , we are not fans of the ones we have tasted ,as you might have guessed we like Italian full bodied ones . Good luck with your back ,if it is as mine it will just be gone one morning as you wake .
How many ladies do you have Blue?😀

There was a very attractive Dublin girl called Suzanne who used to work in our office occasionally. One day we were all fooling around as you do when she blurted out "well you can all kiss my crack". We were all dumbstruck not knowing that crack also means backside in Ireland. 😀

Amazed that they bring their beef in from England. Can't imagine the local farmers would be happy. If that was France they would burn the place down
