Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Morning everyone,

A good win at last night's table tennis but we were playing 4 young lads.

They were an absolute credit to their parents who were there watching and club. Despite losing they behaved impeccably . There were no tantrums, they were polite and congratulated their opponents on good shots .

I was staggered that when I suggested some minor improvements their parents were delighted and surprised saying that no opponent had offered support. A bit sad really , they are kids and surely everyone wants to see them improve even if they play for a different club.

Anyway Rosie, for once , has decided to be really sweet and submissive today ( she is usually a bossy boots with Tintin ). That will change when I get her lead out - unlike her brother she hates going for a walk, much preferring to tear around the garden and tease the goats through the fence.

Looks like the weather might be ok today so time to catch up on some much neglected leaf collection.

Have a lovely day everyone.

@Val P Yes they are cyclamen. I love that spot in the churchyard, there’s usually a spot of colour throughout the year, starting with aconites in January through to the autumn cyclamen. Sign of hope somehow. I spent more than I intended at the Christmas event, including more ornaments for the tree to add to those collected over the 47 years! Promised granddaughters “something from the cafe“ which turned out to be luxury hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, cost me over £12! lol

Flowers or gravestones ? The reason I ask is that we have a few very old graveyards around our village going back hundreds of years. I am fascinated by the people who lived and died here and the various ages they lived to. I appreciate this may sound morbid, but I see it as a mark of respect for those of us who came before. I have no interest in flowers btw…I read the gravestone before I even noticed the flowers…..
I wondered when I posted if anyone would think I meant the gravestones. I love churchyards too. We always look round them when visiting places. There is a corner in our local churchyard where all the children are buried and that used to fascinate me when I was young. A neighbour, now passed, wrote down all the inscriptions which were still visible on the gravestones, before they became illegible, a real labour of love. I often take photos of graves, some are possible ancestors and some just interesting. I then look them up on the census for a bit of an insight into their lives.

I got sent this , probably just a rumour I’d take it though

Different People sending me same rumour,
6 point deduction suspended for 2 years.
No transfer ban,
No idea where this has come from
That will open a can of worms .
Do I detect some sarcasm there blue?
It really doesn't become you mate lol
Me ?Never sir . No offence meant and I am sure none taken.

Sounds like a good night especially the luxury hot choc 😋

I love them too, and more so since I’ve been doing the family tree. I found my great grandad and grandma’s grave this year. They had five children in 11 years, not all survived and one who did was described in horrific terms and I guess they’d say he had learning difficulties nowadays. But on their gravestone under my great grandma’s name, my ggdad had put “a better mother never lived” and it really touched me deeply.

Such lovely words, What a wonderful tribute.

Hi Folks. How is everybody? I love old gravestones too. Durham Cathedral has loads of them. The church we went to in Liverpool, St Austins, also had graves going back to the 1800s. Fascinating. I find the children's graves very upsetting and you can almost see the demarcation line as to when vaccines and antibiotics were invented which massively reduced the number of child deaths. My Nan and Grandad had 9 children, 6 made it to adulthood. Of the three who died one was a six week old baby. She died shortly after a WW2 bomb dropped in the street where they lived. Apparently all the soot and the shock of the blast killed her. One day while trying to trace my Irish grandparents (Dad's family) birth and marriage records because I intend getting an Irish passport, I ended up going down a rabbit hole and found my Mum's little sister's birth and death record. My Nan and Granddad registered her birth and death on the same day. How sad is that?

Glad you had a good time at the Christmas Event @Gwladysover I'm liking the sound of luxury hot chocolate. Rosie does make me laugh @jazzy . She'd rather tease goats than go for a walk!

I met my friends for our pie chips and mushy peas lunch. Unfortunately apple crumble and custard was also available so we had that too. Be rude not to. I literally still can't move. I had to postpone the weekly shop until tomorrow. The thought of waddling round Lidl and/or Tesco was not filling me with joy! I did go to the gym this morning so there has been some damage control. 🤣

I haven't heard the rumours about a six point deduction suspended for two years but as @peteblue said nothing has been decided, In fact the whole thing is shrouded in mystery. Nobody even knows what we've actually been charged with. It was also good to see England win a cricket match - even if it was against the Netherlands.

I wanted to share this with you. It's the most rubbish photo of the best day ever. Eight years ago today we were in Long Beach. We went to LA for our Silver wedding and went on a whale watching trip. I saw a humpback whale. I genuinely cried when I saw it and because of the off the scale levels of excitement my photos were utter pants!
Have a lovely evening

I tried to read your post without glasses and looked at the photo.
I was convinced that it was the Lich Ness monster until I found my glasses and read the post lol

Is this an age thing 🤣. I have in the last month been walking my rather unruly lurcher through Anfield Cemetery (he would let anyone come in and take the telly and no doubt show them which cushion the remote was behind but woe betide they’d been to a fancy dress party as a dog). Anyway on the Priory Road side many of the gravestones have been laid flat for safety reasons I suppose (so old). But you can see what wealth there was in the city in the 1800’s by the monuments still standing. Weird to see people laid to rest who were born in 1700’s
