Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Evening each, bittersweet visit to my friend this morning. Amongst the items brought down from her loft the other day she had found her diary for 1964, the year she lost her Mum. She was reluctant to read it when she was alone so was waiting for me so we could go through it together. She was not aware of how poorly her Mum was and the daily entries read with hindsight are heartbreaking- for instance Dad made my breakfast and cooked dinner again. The pages for the week of her Mum’s passing were missing although she has no recollection of tearing them out. There were some laughs along the way though - for her birthday I had brought her some bath cubes ( who remembers them?) and a pair of corgis which she named Bangers and Mash and in October we were both in detention for wearing our berets incorrectly. lol
What memories. As you say, bittersweet. Ahh bath cubes. I seem to remember Yardley Lily of the Valley!🤣

Hi All!

I'll be saying some healing prayers for you and Mrs. J @jazzy ! Yes, please post pics of your dish @blue1948 It sounds yummy! I've been thinking about @Terrarian too. Stop in and say "Hi!" my friend. :)

About drivers, yeah they are crazy here, too ( I mean more than normal) I think people are stressed with the economy and things costing so much more, etc.

It's been controlled chaos the past few days, but seems like it's calm for the moment! lol I finished all of the paperwork that work required by Friday night and then I've been prepping for my Mom's visit. She arrived yesterday. I was worried about the trip to the airport with all of the F1 fans showing up, but surprisingly it wasn't busy at all, so I lucked out! I also spotted the GIANT sphere for the first time. I ended up in one of the those "must turn here" lanes and BOOM there it was in front of me. It's so odd to see it in person, looks otherworldly, but still cool I guess.

Have a great day everyone!
Thanks VTG.
Was watching a piece on the Vegas GP , looks really cold over there . Unseasonally cold?

No, the temps are about normal. It's supposed to be 74F for a high on race day.

It's cloudy and rain is expected this afternoon.

Because we are in the desert, I think they expected it to be hot and sunny all year! The should have did a quick check on the internet before picking a date. lol

Morning all on this dark but clear day here in Hyvinkää .Nice to see @Vegas Toffee Girl spreading her goodwill and knowledge again. I hope all had a good night and have a fine day today .
I was thinking last night that since I stopped working almost 13 years ago the pension I get here which had been paid into for 12 years is paying me about the same as I paid in per month ! How is that sustainable ? In theory I have taken out almost as much as I put in and have no intention of stopping .
Stay safe all as most are wearing masks again here .COYB

I’m guessing the reason for your generous pension is that Finland is a very wealthy country that already has its key national infrastructure in place.

Don’t they say that the money taken in the U.K. for pensions is not put away for the taxed individual but rather those who are already pensioners now?

I was lucky in that my final job had a good pension scheme which I bumped up in my final years and retired early. My objective is to receive the pension for more years than I worked for them , 21 years. They’re still doing well , so hopefully they outlast me!

There are differing definitions of the word generous I see ! Yes they are well sorted here and they help as much as they can ,to be honest I get my full UK pension ,my Finnish pension and then the government tops it up "because no one can live on that amount ".I am not crying poverty but just to explain how good they are here .My point was that it is unsustainable for pensions to be paying out on that basis .With inflation being low and interest rates being minus for while,I don't see how they can increase the pot alongside inflation to cover the baby boom .
Interestingly ( at least for me ) is that my UK pension has been linked to the same rate as in UK but when Brexit happened they told me " It will be safe for the next three years " but no guarantee after that . You can have your UK pension with updates in some places including Turkey and Chile but not Canada ,Australia or the States but if you live in one of those counties where the increases don't happen and go back the the UK on holiday then they pay the current rate whilst you are there !! Politicians hey!

Evening all hope everyone is well. It’s been a lovely day today walking my two favourite rescue girls although I feel like I’ve had a full body work out. Left hubby at home decorating. Don’t know what it’s like for you @jazzy but there’s been no applications for them even though they’re not xl bullies. Ones a boxer DDB cross and the other’s an American bulldog cross, I think people wrongly are worried they’ll be classed as an xl. I’ve also noticed people crossing the road to avoid us and it’s such a shame as they love to say hello 😢. This never used to happen. I hope Sunak rots in hell at the moment.

It's definitely getting harder to get good homes and yes , currently ,we are at bursting point for kennel space

Afternoon everyone,

You know how I said we get nutcases applying for dogs sometimes........yeah well we've just go an application from Idaho!

Might volunteer to vet the house and owner lol

It's a beautiful state!! Lol Definitely cold this time of year tho.

I wouldn't say they are for sure a nutcase (I mean they could be). There are plenty of Americans who adopt dogs from all over the world, many from Asia to save them from the Dog meat trade.
