Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Glad you enjoyed it mate.

I had a nice day prior to going shopping. We went down to Lizard village to get our pasties, then took them down to Lizard point where we sat out on a bench and ate them. Luckily the gulls left us in peace, and we were fortunate enough to see a grey seal swiimming amongst the rocks.

We then went down to Kynance Cove (not sure if you've ever been there Jazz). We didn't go down to the beach itself but stayed up in the cliffs overlooking it. It really is beautiful down there and is probably Cal and my favourite place in the whole world. Unbeknown to me it is also where my neighbour scattered his mother's ashes so we were both having a bit of an emotional moment. Coming back along the approach road we came across a farmer walking a cow and her little calf. Turns out it was only a day old and he'd decided to take it back to shelter in the farm biuldings. It was so cute.

He then said he wanted to show me the house where his mum used to live in a place called Mullion Cove, another of the many places in Cornwall we loved. After she died it was converted into 4 holiday lets and we actually stayed in one of them about 10 years ago. Small world.

Anyway, all my food shopping is now done for the Christmas period, aort from my Rick Stein sausages which I'll pick up from the local store tomorrow.
That sounds like a fab day Fred.

I'm much much more familiar with the coast around Looe , Fowey and Mevagisey / Roseland.

I know Mousehole well and of course been to Lands End and Sennen Cove but your place around Falmouth is where I begin to lose my way.

In fact I don't think I've ever been to the furthest point of the Lizard. I remember driving down there one time and gave up because it felt so remote.

Hope that Christmas is as OK as possible for you mate.

We are going with Costa Cruises. I've been assured by my friends who have done loads of Cruises with all different lines that Costa are very laid back and informal. We start in Barcelona and then it is eight days around the Med. We go to Majorca, Marseilles, Sicily and two other places in Italy before back to Barcelona. Might not be innthat exact order.
Yeah Costa are fine Anj, so long as you don't get the captain who crashes his ship into the rocks whilst waving to his girlfriend onshore. Just joking.

You'll enjoy it Anj. I've been around the med that time of year and the weather has always been fantastic, warm and sunny. Never been with Costa but they're owned by the same group that own P&O and Cunard and the ships have all looked nice when i've seen them in port.

Cheers mate

Stayed in all those places over the years and also loved Polperro too which was in that neck of the woods.

Thanks Gwladys, my eldest daughter isn't too bad but her partner got hot with a blinding headache for a couple okays but he's on the mend now, they have 2 little ones at 2 and 9 who are negative so far.

Lovely story about your neighbour it's nice when your kids grow up with nice people like that in their lives.
I'd forgotten to mention earlier, that is my parents 65th wedding anniversary today, they argue everyday but they'd be totally lost without each othe?
Congratulations to your parents, that’s some achievement ??

In 2004 my Mum and Dad treated us all, me, two brothers, our partners and our kids to a family holiday in Cornwall. We stayed at a caravan site somewhere near Lizard Point and had a day out at Mullion Cove. It's beautiful. The holiday was brilliant, great memories for all the kids.

My last day of working away from home tomorrow after having followed Mr Tebbit’s advice for about 28 of the last 33 years give or take. Maybe a couple of days in January working from home, then proper retirement. Have I got enough money, no idea, but as this thread has shown there is a time to say enough and live a little.
I'm sure you won't regretted decision.
Retirement is the vest thing I've ever done.
You will be surprised how easily and well you fill your time.
Enjoy.

That’s really exciting for you, mate! Something to look forward to and very well earned, I’m sure.

You’re absolutely right, too. If in doubt, err on the side of whatever is best for your stress levels and mental health. This forum in general has really opened up my eyes to the struggles that others face and that’s enough without unduly adding to the burden yourself.

I look forward to your retirement diary thread!

Good for you. Enjoy your last day and have a great retirement.
