Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

My last day of working away from home tomorrow after having followed Mr Tebbit’s advice for about 28 of the last 33 years give or take. Maybe a couple of days in January working from home, then proper retirement. Have I got enough money, no idea, but as this thread has shown there is a time to say enough and live a little.
After being retired for just over 20 years, I pass on the following advice.
Sunday evening, think about what you need to do the following week. During that week, if you can't be bothered doing it, don't do it. Works for me!

May you have a long and happy retirement Tommy.
I retired from a full time stressful job in August and started a basic, part time, stress free job in September, the difference to my life has been immeasurable.
I'm really enjoying my wee job and I've lost just over a stone in 3 months so I'm also a lot fitter.

Thanks Gwladys, my eldest daughter isn't too bad but her partner got hot with a blinding headache for a couple okays but he's on the mend now, they have 2 little ones at 2 and 9 who are negative so far.

Lovely story about your neighbour it's nice when your kids grow up with nice people like that in their lives.
I'd forgotten to mention earlier, that is my parents 65th wedding anniversary today, they argue everyday but they'd be totally lost without each othe?
Just noticing this now. Amazing blessing to celebrate.

Literally spent their lives together. Beautiful.

It really isn't but you are very kind. ? ? We've booked to go on a cruise next October with some friends- never been on a cruise so I need to get my act together and lose some weight. 10 months to do it. Hence the gym, and the healthy eating will start after New Year.
Not a know it all but the secret of dieting is simple -it is just the amount of calories ,been on a health diet on doctors orders for about 4 years now and it is all about what you eat and you can eat anything you want just not all the time .
We have a limit of one cream per weekend but in the week it is salads and soups .Another thing we have found is there is something that slips under the radar and that is spices ,so spice up whatever boring food you are forced to eat ,that 's what we have learned .

Morning chaps. I lost 6stone by eating correctly, not denying myself anything just portion size and frequency of meals. I did stop drinking as well which helped though. The easy trick to losing weight or maintain weight is very simple, If you aren't active eat less calories, the trick is eating less than you burn, that way you will lose weight. If you are eating more than you are burning you can't.

Does anyone know how to change a Beagles clock lol. I even stayed up later and took her out later and all I got was a 5 mins only 4.55am instead of 5, Ideally I need to get back to 6. I am probably too blame, when I'm having a particularly bad day I can be in bed by 7pm so she actually has every right to ask to go to the loo lol

Morning mate,

I'm probably in a small minority on here as I don't eat meat and 95% of the time I'm vegetarian.

Diet is really important, as is exercise . Even gentle exercise such as walks and gardening will do the trick.

Appreciate that you have serious pain so just do what you can mate.

Walking the dog is really good for you . If I remember correctly beagles need a lot of exercise.

Have a great day.

I'm trying to cut down on meat, I'd say I've cut down a good 80% still trying to navigate my way around the veggie world, I've had some really nice stuff and some terrible stuff, I'm on a tight budget though as not working cos of my health at the minute.

I do lots of walking, she's not too bad now she's as lazy as me, we used to go out for 2-4 hours a morning I can do 1 1/2 hrs if we're lucky now as my body can't handle it. I don't have a yard or garden so I have to walk her which is a blessing in disguise with my mental health the way it is, gets me out and about even if my skin crawls at times.

Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Good luck mate.

That's really impressive.

Me and Mrs J met 40 years ago .

55 years married is amazing. Are they both in good health?
Aye. Both heading towards 80 and still run rings round the rest of us. Mum has had a few scares over the years, breast cancer being the main one, but you would never have known, she never complained once and her positive outlook at all times was a real help to the rest of us in dealing with it.
Dad still chooses to work 3 days a week supplying the ships stores in the Freeport with their fresh produce, loads of heavy lifting and physical work. He loves it the madman lollol

Absolute legends the pair of them?

No idea. My asshole, not a beagle but a cross, decided he wanted playtime at 5am this morning. Every so often he does it, normally sleeps through.

Have you tried taking the batteries out? Putting it in rice? Sawdust? *insert other GOT tradition here*

Morning everyone,

As Ken Dodd might have said...just 2 more sleeps before Santa slides down your chimney missus - always wondered how he gets into flats which don't have one - he must have some good housebreaking skills.

Anyway do we look forward to this time of year anymore, especially if you don't have kids?

Must admit in normal times it is lovely to have a big family gathering but even that's in the balance now.

Mum's 94 and lives with us. We have nephews who are teachers with young kids and tests or not I don't want them to mix with mum , particularly as another nephew isn't prepared to get vaccinated ( note to self ...if they come over on Boxing Day don't tell him he's a [Poor language removed] for not getting vaccinated ....he's a kopite so there's plenty to fall out over anyway ) so what do you say or do?

Fred I'm really pleased that you are spending Christmas day with your neighbour friends , I hope that you will be OK.

It is obviously a very poignant time of year and Mrs J will go to visit her mum and dad's grave with her sister today.

As for me I will go to the gym this morning and wrap some pressies .

What is everybody else doing?

I used to look forward to going to the pub for a quick pint on Christmas day but because of so many cancellations they have closed the restaurant and decided not to open the rest of the pub on Christmas day. Tough times in hospitality.

Well I hope everyone finishes their preparations for Christmas today and can enjoy a peaceful and restful festive break.
