Morning all. Leaving at 9 am for the flight home today. Hopefully no delays like poor @anjelikaferrett and do hope you get home today. It’s been View attachment 272753View attachment 272753a fab week but so happy to be going home and hopefully by the time I go to bed tonight I’ll have had my first grandma cuddles.
On Monday night we got an emergency alert which goes to everyone’s phones warning us of extreme weather conditions and I just thought yea a bit of a storm coming. How wrong was I, we had 6 solid hours of literally non stop lightening, thunder, wind, rain. I’ve never seen anything like it - scary and spectacular at the same time. Then last night was a perfect balmy evening for our last meal at the local taverna looking at beautiful sky.
Batteries now recharged, let the grandparenting madness begin.
Have a great day everyone 💙
Bloody hell!

It would cost you a fortune to have a fireworks display like that. Talking of which, I must order the fireworks for the pub for bonfire night.

I hope you and Anj enjoy the journeys back home and you enjoy meeting the granddaughter…..

Good morning. Amazing videos @Val P.
Our latest update is that our flight will leave at 2.30pm local time. We've just been to have breakfast and took the advice of the flight crew who told us 'fill yer boots, make sandwiches whatever because all the fresh food we had on this plane will have to be binned so when we eventually leave there will be nothing available except Pringles and very melted Twirls' What a criminal waste of food. I can't believe there isn't somewhere on this island who could make use of the food.
Speaking of the flight crew, they were the only people who gave us any meaningful information yesterday. Whatever they knew, they shared. The Tui reps were noticeable by their absence. We were chatting to the crew last night at dinner. They seemed to be seeking out 'their' passengers. I feel strangely reassured by the fact that our pilot is called Rupert. He sounds like a WW2 fighter pilot 🤣.

Afternoon everyone,

Hopefully @anjelikaferrett is up in the air and experienced no further delays.

Appalling weather here , windy , cold and frequent heavy showers. I've put Granny's central heating on and even thinking about putting our on but Mrs J has our an embargo on it until October at least. It's like we've transitioned from a Summer ( of sorts ) straight into Autumn.

So off to Colne the town of dark and satanic mills tomorrow to collect the new motor so that should be fun.

Have a lovely day everyone.

We are just getting our 4th or 5th wave of heavy rain, the wind hasn’t stopped and it’s freezing…….

That’s incredible! I have never seen anything even approaching that.

Very strange day today with torrential rain interspersed with bright sunshine. I managed to avoid getting a soaking during my walking time so no complaints from me.

Highlight (!!) of my day was getting to see the newly opened Grand Central Station in Belfast. Trains arent running yet (buses are) but the size of the place is so significantly bigger than its predecessor. Public transport is generally poor in NI with a lot of it not even having railway lines. Hopefully the powers that be will finally act on their promises of greater connectivity as too many are wedded to their cars.

Big day Thursday. My mate who died is having a church service before everyone comes down to the pub for a wake. I’ve two friends who now find walking at all almost impossible without a zimmer frame and I have to pick up both to take to the church, then the pub, then home, before I can switch off. My son has closed his shop tomorrow and will sit with my wife while all this is going on. I took his wife, son and dil, and two grandsons out tonight and they are all fine. The pub is prepared, manager and staff briefed, food organised etc and we will do the family proud. Extra special attention is obviously being given to all of this because the staff know how close I am to his family. So it’s going to be a long day, I will still have to do certain functions for my wife that I cannot expect my son to do. So if I’m not around tomorrow you know why. In advance, have a great day all…..

Hi folks. Today has been utter chaos. 20 passengers were booted off our flight o to a Birmingham flight because ours was too heavy. We then got told that ours would leave without luggage and have
to stop at Faro to refuel. Then they said 48 passengers would be left behind.[Poor language removed] you could not make up. They read out a list of the 48 being left. Me and Mr F were in the flying group. And then it all kicked off. One of the flying passengers refused to go. Very vocally asking why the fully loaded Birmingham plane could leave and fly without stopping when ours with no luggage and a handful of passengers couldn’t make the full journey in one go. There's something wrong with it he said. A few more passengers got the jitters. Rupert,WW2 flying ace/Tui pilot came to talk to us. The plane is safe. I wouldn't fly it if I didn't think it was. So we put our trust in Rupert and decided to go. By this time there was another factor in play- fading light. The airport has no lights so no flying in the dark. Then some jobsworthy idiot decided that we would all have to go through passport control and security again. We had been nowhere Rupert was furious and many calls were made but to no avail. By this time it was getting dark, folk were actually running along the tarmac to get on to the plane. Everybody on board by 6pm. Taxied to the runway and....air traffic control said it was too dark. Rupert was very unhappy- he said he was embarassed by how the whole thing had been handled. So here we are again, in the third Rui hotel on the island. And we get to do it all again tomorrow! I already have 8 Cape Verde stamps in my passport- 6 in the last two days.
