Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

I read an article that basically said leave the leaves where they fall. The provide nutrients to the lawn/soil. I have a leaf blower/hoover and have not used it for ten years. My gardener started to rake leaves up and I told him it was a waste of time as there would be a similar amount the very next day and mentioned what I had read. It’s your choice of course but I’d just leave them alone……..
The amount we get it would rot the lawn Pete

I detest November because of leaf collection it's the bain of my life .

We used to collect all the leaves and compost them into leaf mould which is wonderful for the garden.

However during lockdown and whilst on a gardening forum I got a tip to simply blow all the leaves into the border and let the worms do the work.

It's worked well in enriching the soil .

I still wonder how it works so well because in one border the leaf pile is about 3ft high like a snowdrift.

When you hear in mind that we have planted over 120 trees and already had about 25 very mature oak , beech and sycamore when we moved in 30 years ago and that we are surrounded by mature trees from our neighbours and you can understand the scale of the problem.
Do as nature does ! Why make all the work.

Good morning all on this white day here . I hope all are fast asleep in their beds at the moment and have a good night's sleep followed by a fantastic day .
I have my first sore throat since before covid ,we had a short flu when I came back from "Two go wild in Cornwall" other than that we have been germ free .Off to the shops today so we hope the snow plough has been there first ,it is about 6" so not the end of the world but so much better if they have cleared it .Have a great day all COYB.

Morning everyone. A cold one here this morning. Not much to report here. I’m working this afternoon but from home which makes it easier. Hopefully tomorrow we will do the garden centre trip with the family that we were hoping to do a couple of weeks ago til they got food poisoning, so fingers crossed for a great day out.
Enjoy your Thursday- there is something magical about a frosty morning(but probably not for everyone) ❄️ 💙

One for @blueloon ( given his relative proximity) but you can all join in.....

Watching Shetland, one of my favourite TV shows ( although nowhere near as good without Jimmy Perez, anyway I digress) and was struck by the incredible landscape but no trees . So I looked it up and nope there are no trees in Shetland ( the internet said it so it must be right 😂).

Which begs the question...why?

Sure it's inhospitable but anymore so that the Highlands or even Finland.

Answers on a postcard please.

They were cut down for fuel and buildings. I read somewhere that they are looking to do, or are doing, a tree planting project…..
