Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Well, first bit of good news this year. I’d been on the season ticket waiting list and an official member for years. Got my email today confirming that I can get one starting next season at the new stadium. Of course this brings various logistical issues now but I’ll find a way……
If anyone deserves good news it’s you Pete , I’ll see you at the bar in Club View and we can moan about the absence of cask ale 🍻

Evening everyone. Great news that Kay is getting close to being discharged @peteblue but make sure referrals have been made to potential services that can help you and that indeed she is able to negotiate your home at least as well as she did before she was admitted. Hospital is a very sheltered environment to made judgements about people’s ability to manage at home but I know you will have it all sorted out.
Coincidences can be cruel indeed, I might have said before that my husband’s dad died on Christmas Day, my dad died on Boxing Day (which was also my mum and dad’s wedding anniversary) and then my mum died on Christmas Eve. We all get a bit nervous at this time of year. On the plus side having our granddaughter this year will bring massive joy to our Christmas.
I’ve got my email too about renewing our season tickets but we have to wait until the second date to ensure we can sit with our son. I’m sure it won’t be a problem.
Had a very energetic walk this morning with a GSD cross Husky - such a gorgeous girl but a bit of a handful
Have a lovely evening all 💙

Oh Val, Christmas must be such a poignant time of the year for you all but you are right your little one is sure to bring you joy plus you get to spoil her rotten. It’s what grandparents do!💙

That's good news. Have they arranged any help for you?

No, they keep mentioning it but nothing concrete. We will not need it to begin with but I asked for a number of contact details for when we do. One of the nurses was checking on how to get a blue badge as her mobility will no doubt begin to degrade. First of all I’ve got to get her home and back into the routines that have worked so well so far. Then I can make a decision to either sell the house and find the perfect place or spend money on building ground floor bathrooms, putting in lifts etc. I’d bought a wonderful penthouse with lifts years ago, in the middle of our local town that we used for weekends, meals etc, and that would have been perfect for the situation we are now in, but my wife really didn’t want to leave our house and village so after ten years or so we sold it. A major mistake on my part I’m afraid……

I can’t offer much advice on this position beyond stressing the need to get care/support packages in place before you leave the hospital. Once out of the system it is much harder to make the necessary connections again.

This, absolutely. For us it was different in that they kept my FIL in hospital until a Carers were freed up , perhaps not something you’d want @peteblue , but once out of their hands getting a care package becomes much more difficult.

A little experience of this recently (family member) and I’m pleased to say the medics calling out to the house have been brilliant both in terms of providing equipment and advice.

Thanks guys, I gave this some serious thought overnight. Anyway today they had put her in a different ward and the new physio people were really pushing for a care plan, to be put in place immediately as you all suggested.Anyway, they are going to arrange for a bed to be installed downstairs and for a carer to call in each morning for washing etc which will keep her ‘in the system’. We agreed it would be quicker if I arranged the installation and fitting of suitable handrails.

See, I do take note of comments in here…..

The physios and OT’s work hand in glove and they are great people to guide you as they have seen it all. I can promise you they will really appreciate you being there to help them in terms of baseline positions for Kay and any changes you notice to that.
