Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

My wife's best friend is a Kilkenny fanatic. Lovely lady.... until you mention hurling. Unbelievable how she changes
Is Kilkenny the place where the drink comes from, used to get me hammered that stuff, we started selling it in the football clubhouse so me and my mate were on it straight after games, it's lethal stuff lol

Morning everyone ,

Well it was lovely to see the return of @Sassy Colombian .

Wet and still very windy here and likely to be so for the next couple of days.

Depressing result and 2nd half performance yesterday - heaven knows if we are going to stay up.

Don't think we will have long left with the little fella , we will see. I know you all worry about him . He's had a great life and when the time is right we will do what we have to do. Sorry but please don't ask me how he is as it's the only thing that upsets me. If he improves I will let you know and also when the time comes. Sorry but it's so hard just thinking about it and typing this.

Anyhow I'm off to yoga and hope that that takes my mind off things.

Have a lovely day everyone
? ?

My great great grandfather came over to Liverpool from County Cork in the 1840's. He started the Liverpool dynasty for our family. Have been to Cork City, one of the nicest places on the planet.
My great great grandad was named James Patrick. I am named John Patrick - mainly because I was born on St Patrick's day! Lucky day to be born on, nobody ever forgot my birthday! lol
My Dad's family are from Cork He is the youngest and the only one of his siblings to have been born in England. Similar age to your good self M. Born 1937. His next youngest sibling was 8 years older than him.

We had a brewery here for hundreds of years. Known as Smithwicks. The export version was called Kilkenny. It was very strong alright.Diageo took it over as well as Guinness. Smithwicks is still being brewed but not in Kilkenny. Not sure if Kilkenny beer is still being made.

I’m in the Pot Still now, what a great pub , hope you’re feeling ok.
Nice one mate, you can't go wrong with the 'malt of the month' there and the pies are from a good butcher.
Thanks for asking mate I'm probably doing as well as expected but still feeling a bit sh1t.
Just got to grin and bear it and get on with things.
I'm being fed pizza, rashers of bacon and nan bread by the family, not sure if they're doing me any good but it's the only things they can fit under my bedroom door?

Happy matchday, friends! I hope everyone is doing well, especially those of you having to deal with Eunice's high winds and furor. I apologize about my absence but given the incident that happened a few weeks ago I felt the need to step away from the forum, by choice. But I've missed everyone a lot and I appreciate all the posts and messages that I received during the time that I was away. It is going to take me some time to catch up with this thread and I probably won't answer everyone's post while I was absent, or I am going to sound like Zatty in steroids ? But know that every day that I was away I thought of each of you and missed the comradeship that we have formed here so it wasn't easy to be away, but it was necessary!

I can't believe how much has happened with Everton since I've been gone. Watching us played last week was one of the most exciting performances that I've witness our Blues playing, it felt like I was watching a brand new squad. Lampard seems to be raising our player's confidence and desire to perform like no other manager has been capable of doing in recent years, even Ancelotti. So, I'm feeling very optimistic about our future. Sure, it is not going to be an easy path, especially given the bad shape Benitez left us on the table and some of the teams we have to play in the next few weeks. But Frank certainly seems to have the right spirit, strategy, and tactics to makes us hope of better days, and years ahead :)

COYB! Arriba los Caramelos!
Welcome back Sassy and congratulations on your successful interview, was there really going to be any other outcome?

Good morning all another early one for me as Finland won the Ice hockey gold for the first time . I hope all have a great day .
Congrats to Finland, that’s a great accomplishment.

Colombia had 3 competitors at the Olympics, we didn’t win any medals but one of the nicest sportsmanship moments happened during the cross country skiing race when Finnish cross-country skier Iivo Niskanen after winning the race he waited for the last skier on the race before leaving the track. This skier was Colombian Carlos Quintana and he was super touched with Niskanen’s gesture.

Thanks, Jazzy!

It has been so nice to be back and you all have made me feel so welcomed and loved since my return that my self-esteem is going through the roof :D

For me more than depressing, it was puzzling. Why is it that our player can be consistent with their playing for more than one match. They look like a completely different team than the one that thrilled us the Saturday before. They allowed themselves to be outplayed by Southampton and there was no intensity or pressure during the second half. And City losing yesterday against Tottenham was not a good outcome for us either as they will do everything possible to defeat us next weekend. The 2022 football season is looking very grim for my teams (meaning the Blues and Colombia).

I hope the yoga went well. I really need to get myself to do more yoga this year, you are going to be my motivation!

Thanks for the explanation, I've been learning a lot about words and culture through this exchanges!

Lol, maybe she was a hurling player in her previous life ;)

For some reason which I have never had explained, the "beach" where I live (near Bristol) is called Kilkenny Bay, and the main road that overlooks the Severn Estuary/beach is called Nore Road. As in River Nore. No idea what our connection to your part of the word is.

Think more Australian rules than American football. It’s fast and hard hitting and for an amateur game it has a very high skill level. Here’s last nights highlights to give you an idea.

This may become my favorite amateur game. I enjoyed watching the highlights! So eventhough they don't get paid do they compete for a championship? How good is Armagh?
