Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Forgive me for bringing up the subject of relegation again, but after learning more of the potential impact that such demotion could have not just when it comes to footy. But also the repercussions to the livelihoods of the many people that depend on our great Club, not just those employed by Everton but also all the people that we help throughout our community outreach programs. I now regret that I took lightly the consequences of relegation and I wish to apologise for it. And while things are not looking very favorable for Everton after tonight’s match, Goodison has been a place where the highly improbable has happened before so let’s hope for a few miracles there in the next few weeks.

Night, night friends! ?

I wouldn't sweat it...so have upper mgmt.

Proper football. Been watching the Big Match Revisited on iPlayer and it bears little resemblance to football today. I know conditions etc are better but I can’t help hankering after those days. Called getting old I suppose.:(

Fantastic. You've got watch it @Barnfred 55 You will love it. It's made with such warmth and love. Loads of my mates up here have watched it and really enjoyed it - without having any emotional connection to either Everton or the city of Liverpool.
Hello friends.

After a couple of busy days, today im having a slow morning at one of my recruiting events so taking advantage of my free time to catch up to this thread. On Monday and Tuesday I gave my first campus tour to a big group of eight graders and it was so nice to show them around while telling them the many reasons why my college will be a great place for them to enroll. So I’m loving my new job for many reason and I’m also enjoying all the walking I’m doing. Yesterday I almost did 20,000 steps and the best part of it is that the weather has been gorgeous and our campus has some beautiful views of the mountains. I’ll make sure to post some pics in the next few days.

I apologise if @blue1948 or anyone else felt as if my response regarding relegation as negative. I know for many of you Everton has played a larger role in your lives, than for me who is a relatively new fan, so I understand your agony of seeing us on such position, but once again in the perspective of things, it is just footy. For me at the moment, and this is a personal opinion, there are bigger things to worry about such as the massacre that happened to the people of Bucha. So while I don’t want us to go down, and I actually still think we still have a chance at saving ourselves, I just can’t allowed myself to be in despair over relegation when everyday I am feeling anguish for the suffering that’s happening around the world. But I apologise if this sounds insensitive or negative to some of you. I’m sure the effects of relegation would be huge and I would prefer for us to stay up, but regardless of what happens I’ll still continue being an Evertonian. For better or for worse.

Have a lovely evening everyone!
@Gwladysover @anjelikaferrett @Sassy Colombian sum up my attitude to football, Everton and our current plight.
Sorry for your sensibilities @blue1948 but if we are a group of friends we should be able to openly discuss topics , warts and all.

I look back with great fondness to football in the 80s. Players were paid reasonable salaries and gave everything , it really meant something to them.

Now players , particularly those at Everton are ludicrously overpaid and appear to be totally detached from reality.

I have chatted with Peter Reid and other players from that era on numerous occasions - they were proper players who cared about the values of the club and the fans. I got very drunk one night with Sharpie.

Now I'd walk in the opposite direction if I saw one of our frauds masquerading as players. I can't imagine that I'd want to have a pint with any of them.

Evertons demise founded on years of incompetent management coincides with my lack of interest in football generally.

The pigeons are coming home to roost sadly this great club is being brought to its knees and we are fully deserving of it.

As Sassy says there are so many more important things going on in the world. But we need distractions. We have always needed distraction from the humdrum and hardships everyday life even more so when you have the historical atrocities that we are witnessing through our TV screens.

Everton has always been my no1 love outside of my family.

I'm not sure that's true anymore , I'm not even sure I want it to be.

Its not because we aren't winning , I don't really bother about that but it's that we appear to have lost our core values.

As a team there is no spirit , fight or teamwork.

As a club we have no identity or strategy.

The only good thing about Everton is the community work.

So increasingly I will find another distraction.
Last night I chose not to watch the much but instead to go to Crosby and watch some top quality amateur table tennis. The players gave their all and played their hearts out just to compete. Of course I kept checking the score on my phone but you know what when the 3rd goal went in there was an acceptance on my part.

If we do go down I fear greatly for us. Other big clubs like Sunderland , Forest , Wednesday and Derby have illustrated how hard it is to come back.

I desperately hope that Everton can turn it around. Desperate for myself but I think more so for my friends on here and in the city.

Increasingly however I find that the only reason that I come on this forum is to connect with all my friends on this thread.

Very rainy and overcast day, which matches my mood.

Morning all, bright and sunny but very windy here. Double pegs needed on the washing line today. Just bracing ourselves as we are looking after grandkids nos 3 and 4 until Saturday. Son in law and daughter are away for a couple of days as SIL received a driving experience at Thruxton for his birthday and it’s too far to do it in a day so they are making a couple of days of it. He will be driving round the bend literally and we will be driving round the bend metaphorically lol. Have a great day everyone

It is so hard reading that but other than it still being everthing to me I have to agree .
I feel brokenhearted watching this unfold ,we are having terribe luck but this is life .
My biggest fear is Frank with his this is just one match attitude just reducing the number by one each time on the amount of games to go ,I think that attitude is great if you play for the Chelsea team he did but with this crew I am not sure .
I am a half full kind of guy but I keep checking the glass to make sure it is not empty .

I agree with a lot of that Jazz. What has happened to me in the last year puts things into perspective, and what is happening to the poor people in Ukraine and other parts of the world that we rarely hear about, even more so. I too have lost a degree of interest in football generally, with the exception of Everton and England in tournaments (even though that is generally frowned upon in his forum for some reason). I rarely watch matches on TV unless one of those 2 teams are involved, and I don't watch them very often because I don't have Sky or BT sport and am a complete dunce when it comes to streaming over the net. It is also true that I have lost a lot of faith in the club, the players and the management, but I have not lost any of my love for the club. That remains and will do until the day I die. it's part of who I am. I'm also immensely proud of what the club does in the community. I also fear what will happen if the club are relegated. Financial fair play could exacerbate that situation and the new stadium is definitely at risk as a result. But at the end of the day, no matter what the outcome, Everton will still be my club and I will still love them. If we have to spend some time out of the premier league, so be it.

Having said that, I still hold out hope that we can avoid relegation, but those hopes look slimmer every day. We have fallen behind those above us and Burnley have a far far easier run in than we do. But by all accounts, the last 2 performances have been an improvement on our previous away form and offer some hope. If we can bring that commitment to our home games the crowd will give us a lift and we're capable of getting some unexpected results. I truly believe that. We've been here before and come through it. Let's hope we can do so again. ;)

Who are you trying to kid Gwladys. You love it really.

There was a piece on the local news programme last night about the plight of dairy farmers in the region. Many of them are committed to the large retailers and are tied to fixed prices with them. Because the costs of feed, fertiliser and transport are all going up, many of them are in danger of going out of business. Their profit margins are low because they deal in bulk so the effects of the increase in costs will be catastrophic. If the supermarkets don't stand down and renegotiate the prices then they will lose a lot of their supply. From what I understand, there is a huge mark up between source and retail prices, so the supermarkets could easily pay more for their supply and absorb this without passing on to the consumer. It's serious apparently. :(

Jazzy that was a very profound analysis and I appreciate you sharing with us your feelings. And even though you are not finding joy in Everton at the moment, I also appreciate the fact that you still are making an effort to connect with us.

it is rainy and overcast here too, but I hope the sunshine, like Everton, surprises me. Xxx
