Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

@Gwladysover @anjelikaferrett @Sassy Colombian sum up my attitude to football, Everton and our current plight.
Sorry for your sensibilities @blue1948 but if we are a group of friends we should be able to openly discuss topics , warts and all.

I look back with great fondness to football in the 80s. Players were paid reasonable salaries and gave everything , it really meant something to them.

Now players , particularly those at Everton are ludicrously overpaid and appear to be totally detached from reality.

I have chatted with Peter Reid and other players from that era on numerous occasions - they were proper players who cared about the values of the club and the fans. I got very drunk one night with Sharpie.

Now I'd walk in the opposite direction if I saw one of our frauds masquerading as players. I can't imagine that I'd want to have a pint with any of them.

Evertons demise founded on years of incompetent management coincides with my lack of interest in football generally.

The pigeons are coming home to roost sadly this great club is being brought to its knees and we are fully deserving of it.

As Sassy says there are so many more important things going on in the world. But we need distractions. We have always needed distraction from the humdrum and hardships everyday life even more so when you have the historical atrocities that we are witnessing through our TV screens.

Everton has always been my no1 love outside of my family.

I'm not sure that's true anymore , I'm not even sure I want it to be.

Its not because we aren't winning , I don't really bother about that but it's that we appear to have lost our core values.

As a team there is no spirit , fight or teamwork.

As a club we have no identity or strategy.

The only good thing about Everton is the community work.

So increasingly I will find another distraction.
Last night I chose not to watch the much but instead to go to Crosby and watch some top quality amateur table tennis. The players gave their all and played their hearts out just to compete. Of course I kept checking the score on my phone but you know what when the 3rd goal went in there was an acceptance on my part.

If we do go down I fear greatly for us. Other big clubs like Sunderland , Forest , Wednesday and Derby have illustrated how hard it is to come back.

I desperately hope that Everton can turn it around. Desperate for myself but I think more so for my friends on here and in the city.

Increasingly however I find that the only reason that I come on this forum is to connect with all my friends on this thread.

Very rainy and overcast day, which matches my mood.
I love this. Everton have been in my life for the whole of my life and I genuinely do love them. The state of things at the moment just makes me sad. i don't think Lampard can be held responsible. Poor choices since we got rid of Martinez and no apparent strategy. I'm desperate for us to stay up. I'm falling out of love with sport generally. Everything is so money orientated, I'm sure most of them are corrupt at some level and the sports washing really gets to me. How can you ignore some of the human rights issues.

Anyway what will be will be. It's poured here nearly all day and it's freezing- still. 5C, feels like 0C according to my weather app.

Last night was maybe the first I thought supporting this great club could make me really ill. I’m normally quite chilled but I couldn’t sleep last night with my adrenaline raging. My face was burning with annoyance which really isn’t me. I scared myself to be honest but a full working day today was the best thing that could have happened.

I realised today that no matter how much I love this club, my annoyance isn’t for me at all. It’s for my kids who love the club as I do. They are at the age where all their mates support Manchester or the RS or whoever wins cups. Football is everything to them and as they don’t have life experience they can’t contextualise it. Relegation will be hell for them with their mates.

And to counter a negative post with a positive one, while walking just now I spotted a majestic grey Herron hunting for his supper. My pic doesn’t do him (her?) justice but you get the idea:

AT, there is no negativity in your post, just your sincere hurting feelings. Your agony is totally understandable, especially the effects such demotion could have on your boys. No parent want to have their kids being the center of ridicules because their club got relegated. I’m still hoping for a miracle ??

Nice pic, how wonderful to get to see a Herron during a walk.

Only seeing this now mate. Brilliant post. I had the privilege of buying Reidy and his lovely late Dad pints in the Winslow back in the 80s. Despite starting as a rs Peter completely changed to Blue.

They were true gents.

Bails was so apologetic to me when I asked for his autograph after the. rs 0-5.

Is there any of the current shower that would deign to join with the support in the Winslow? Probably Seamus, maybe Jordan. There is SFA connection between them and the support.

Good evening folks, hope everybody is well. @Armaghtoffee I really feel for you and your kids. I must have woken up about 10 times last might ( possibly also due to trying to drink more water! lol ) but the first thing I thought about every time was Everton. Silly really but you can't detach from it. It is even harder for the kids to take a step back. Love your heron pic.

Here's a pic of my furry friend helping me log in this morning.

Excellent post mate. I wake in the night and first thing in my mind is this flipping Club and where we are going. Unhealthy and unnatural I know but I love this Club.
