Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

There was a piece on the local news programme last night about the plight of dairy farmers in the region. Many of them are committed to the large retailers and are tied to fixed prices with them. Because the costs of feed, fertiliser and transport are all going up, many of them are in danger of going out of business. Their profit margins are low because they deal in bulk so the effects of the increase in costs will be catastrophic. If the supermarkets don't stand down and renegotiate the prices then they will lose a lot of their supply. From what I understand, there is a huge mark up between source and retail prices, so the supermarkets could easily pay more for their supply and absorb this without passing on to the consumer. It's serious apparently. :(
There was a diary farmer interviewed on LBC earlier and he said the penny has finally dropped with the big supermarkets and they are bricking themselves of the possibility of there being no milk on the shelves. A lorry load of feed that was costing him £7k last year now costs £27k and as a result at long last the supermarkets are starting to pay a reasonable price.

Of course none of this affects me because being the top environmentalists that we are me and Mrs J only use soya milk. Y'all have to catch up.

As with so many things in life unless we are told we don't understand .We all lead a semi-insular life and it is refreshing to get a better understanding of the everyday world that goes on around us . Good luck on the gee gees today.

Horse fell in the first and second my horse had his win overturned by the stewards even though the other jockey said there was no interference.

It's like Everton with 4 legs and a long face?

I got lucky there with the second horse falling at the last

Offer Five - Epatante (3:30 Aintree) To Win By Over 3 Lengths - Was 7/2

9/2

My first winner too after Pied Piper was demoted. It was travelling so well I reckon it could have won by 3 lengths anyway.

Bizarrely, I actually got more money back after it was demoted because I had it on a money back basis if it was placed. Because it was originally a dead heat it only paid out half the winnings which was £9.55 for my £10 bet. When it was demoted to second, I had my whole £10 stake returned. Weird or what. lol
