Assuming we stay in the PL none apart from Tarkowski are adequate. Does he retain Keane because he knows him? Maybe. Branthwaite is a decision to make too. The Dutch league isn't a great indicator on PL adequacy.

I haven't been paying attention to possible relegation candidates should they take the drop. Could Zouma come back here, for example?
Over my dead pus*y!

Godfrey and Holgate are dreadful in the air. Holgate is slightly better at CB but Godfrey is probably better at full back just.

Quite equal really.

Mina is the best but plays 20 mins every 2 months.

Tarkowski has been decent enough, he's no jagielka of course.

Keane , we know what he is and can do, I'm not a fan at all.

Coady looked great for a bit. Now looks worse than Keane somehow, same age too.

Branthwaite, personally I think moshiri will simply go with the highest bidder. Don't think he's ever destined for us sadly. Love to be wrong though.

It's one of those areas that looks ok but in reality needs a lot of work on. Branthwaite still has a question mark hanging over him and we might see the club take the cash from his sale and invest elsewhere.

I think Coady goes back to Wolves tbh.

Holgate - if there was a CB in him we;'d have seen it by now.

Godfrey - I'd never trust him in the middle of a defence in the PL. Just not up to it.
Some good points there and agree with you about Coady, just wondering if Dyche can do anything with the other two after Mcneils transformation.

There's been a couple of clubs sniffing around Branthwite whilst he's been on loan, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on next season.

Tarkowski and Keane: I thought they'd played loads of games together at Burnley. Turns out it was only 21 times.

Tarko took over when we bought Keane.

Was Ben Mee and Keane as a partnership before that. Then Mee and Tarko...and I think they got Europe while Keane was being scared with Ashley Williams for us.

We need to have at least one CB who has a reasonable amount of pace. Having both who are limited in this department does invite trouble a lot of the time and it does make moving up the pitch more complicated at times which often results in the long balls. I don't really know what Godfrey is meant to be, he isn't a CB but I don't think he is a FB either, at most he is only ever going to be a utility player imo and it's always worth having one of those. Holgate needs moving on same as Mina, he is just to injury prone. Dyche clearly rates Keane and I think he will stay also trying to get someone to pay his wages might also be an issue. Coady can go back to Wolves, he is a poor player imo, very vocal and a leader but his ability levels don't quite match the leadership skills. I'd love us to start next season with Branthwaite and one other but like you mate I fear young Jarred will get sold for big money in the summer. too many of the big boys hovering round in the background.

We need to decide on four in my opinion, JT, Keane (Dyche favorite) will stay in my opinion. The rest;

Mina - will go, be hugely enabling to get his 120k of the wage bill, hes costing us about 12 mill a season.

Godfrey - a decision to be made - there will be a market for him - i believe Howe is a huge fan - a player i like, had a horrible run of injuries - but played his way into England in his only fit season with us, can cover full back. Decision needs to be made. Headroom in my opinion.

Coady - Stick or twist - 5 mill cost - he will be on a big wage, hitting 30 +. Topped out at this level.

Holgate - costs very little in ammortisation - can cover full back - market for him maybe in the championship. Topped out at this level.

Braintwaite - is he ready for a step up - there will be market for him no doubt. Headroom for improvement in my opinion.

So we loose two from 4, its just choosing your poison.

Mina will be going on a free for sure. Loved him when he was fit as he's a top defender, but rather like Calvert-Lewin if you can't get on the pitch then you're not much use.

I wouldn't be signing Coady regardless of whether we stay up or go down, and I'd be looking to sell Holgate for some pure FFP profit.

That leaves us with Tarkowski, Godfrey, Keane and Branthwaite. We'd either need to promote a youngster or pick up an experienced pro on a free/for cheap but we'd be more than fine without Mina, Coady and Holgate.

I agree a back line with no pace is in serious trouble. It is difficult with Godfrey I don't see his position either , if mina was cheap I'd keep him but he isn't.

Keane can pass, head and is reasonably good at reading the game . Dyche knows him best.

I agree with Coady but he did look really good at one point and if I remember rightly we had the best defence in the league or close enough too.

Yes agree I don't see Braithwaite kicking a ball for us

Tarkowski signed for Burnley in 2016, and Keane was with Burnley until 2017.

I read he'd played 21 times alongside him. Did he not play alongside him at all?

Keane has a goal in him and is perfect under Dyche.
Well I hope he gets a couple because we need them, he made a mess of his header from a very good free kick a simple glance of his head would given us another goal, the one thing that impresses me is it seems Tarkowski is playing and conducting the team a lot better since Keane came in, maybe Tarkowski is talking Michael through the game and giving him the confidence that is essential to Keane’s game. I still feel very nervous watching Keane throughout the game expecting him to make a rick at any minute.
