will quote many posts from these pages when he has that nighmare of a game next month...
Why, I think most people are acknowledging that he has strengths and weaknesses. Not sure Keane is fully to blame for a manager playing a high line when even we can see he doesn't suit it. He has a lot to prove under Ancelotti as they all do.

I quite like Keane as a player. Shame he hasn't got more pace, but his overall defending is good.
If he was quicker he would be in a similar bracket to Jags and Lescott in 08/09.

Hopefully with a stronger midfield unit in front of him, and the knowledge that the manager rates and trusts him, we will see the best of the Keane in the next copule of years.

Over the course of Silva's first season I thought he was our most consistent player. Last season, nowhere near but he did pick up after lockdown.

As has already been said, if we are defending deep he has a role in the side.

There are so many players still on the books that provide less to the side than Keane.

Both of those players far exceed anyone we have at centre half, not just Keane. They were amongst the best players in their position in their prime. If Keane had pace, he still wouldn’t be at their level.

Michael Keane has signed a new five-year contract with Everton, committing his future to the Club until the end of June 2025.

The 27-year-old defender has capped a “special few months” with his Blues deal following the birth of his daughter in June and an England recall last week.

Keane played every minute of Everton’s Premier League games post-lockdown last season, claiming a handful of man-of-the-match awards and maintaining an elevated level of performance he will employ as a benchmark when the new campaign kicks off in a fortnight.

The centre-back has made 94 Premier League appearances since signing from Burnley in summer 2017 and scored three goals.

Keane figured 31 times in the top-flight last term and became a regular for manager Carlo Ancelotti in the closing months of the campaign.

“I have loved my three years at Everton and am looking forward to seeing what the future holds,” Keane told evertontv.

“I am learning every day on the training pitch with the manager and all his staff.

“They have been brilliant and really got across the way they want us to play.

“The manager is one of the best there has been.

“I am hoping we can kick on this season and make the fans proud again.

“Before lockdown I had a good run of form and, hopefully, I can keep that going into this season and keep improving.

“I am not happy just staying where I am at the minute.

“I want to keep improving and keep learning.

“My best years are definitely ahead of me.

“I am working on things every day… striving to get better in every part of my game and, hopefully, I can show that.”

Not the worst news but he needs to learn to play about 5 yards further up the pitch as the gap between defence and attack is really hampering us.
