Because fans are on Keane's case so much the manager is having to defend him in press conferences.

He's red to a bull and it can't help the lads confidence.

"Issue is though, we are crap with them too. We were 19th without Keane playing a game when Dyche come in"

People making out that we'd be infinitely better if we replace Keane just ignore the fact we were pathetic before Keane come back in.

If you were brought in as manager when Dyche was, you have all 6 centre halves fit, is Keane a starter for you? Because I don't think he is to anyone but Dyche.

Even Frank knew to boot him out the squad.

It is simple for me this. If he is playing poor then drop him and give someone else a chance who is champing at the bit to do better than him. If they don't then give someone else a go. There is too much at risk and so few games left to just stick and hope. If it was early in the season then fair enough but not with what is at stake. Got to try everything to not get relegated which is another reason why making no substitutes late on against Leicester was poor and negligent imo.

We were 19th when Dyche tookover/without Keane kicking a ball.

You and others are putting way too much on Keane.

"Keane will relegate us!!!"

He's not cost us a point since coming in.

He has though scored a screamer that rescued a point.

Coady is terrible and we can forget Mina. He's checked out.
Keane conceded a penalty in our last game completely unnecessarily. What constitutes "not cost us a point"?

It was saved/it didn't cost us a point/it didn't contribute to our relegation.

No, but neither is Coady. Mina - I've spent years saying he's a liability because you need continuity in defence and he's never fit. It's worse now that he's a few weeks from his final pay day contract. He won't want to know. Godfrey? God knows. Holgate? Nah.

I'd have kept Branthwaite.

This is me 1st June 2022;

Sign a decent centre half and put Branthwaite next to them, starting every game.

Get him on a 5/6 year new deal first.

I'm convinced this fella will be one of the best centre halfs in the game. We've just got to stick him in a settled defence, next to a decent defender to bring his game on and tell him he's getting a good run in the team.

He's had a very good loan by the sound of it, but I think he'd have been a better option than what we have.

As for Dyche - he developed Keane into a player we were all buzzing to have signed ahead of some other very decent teams. Dyche clearly rates the lad. Moyes knows a defender (nobody mention Kroldrup) and wanted him in January.

He's not good.
He's not the reason we're going down.
Replacing him doesn't improve us - unfortunately.

That's not saying we shouldn't replace him - just that we should temper expectations and do well to remember we were god awful in 19th before Keane.

So, as long as his calamitous mistakes are spurned through pure chance they should be ignored?

You're right to say it is not all on Keane, clearly that is true, but to act like he's not a significant part of the problem doesn't hold up. He makes the entire defense worse as everyone else gets pulled out of position when he gets caught ball watching/wandering out of position/tripping over his own feet/losing the flight of the ball/simply getting skinned on the turn.

It's also not Keane's fault that he keeps getting picked, that's on his ginger sugar daddy, but fans are quite within their rights to point out how poorly he has been playing. And he is playing poorly, it's not some sort of mass hysteria on the part of the fans.

But they're not really are they. Not from what ive read. More the defence are shipping goals change it up.
Keane has now played 10 consecutive games. We've conceded 20 goals. First 10 games of the season with tarkowski/coady we conceded half that amount in the same amount of games. 10 goals.

Everybodys form dipped inbetween. If coady or anyone for that matter can be dropped for that reason, why cant keane.

Me personally i wouldnt have keane or Godfrey as starters.

The point is that people are over attributing blame to him. I've saw comments of people blaming him for relegation/he'll relegate us if he keeps playing etc.

I'm like a stuck record but to those people Ive said, IMO, he hasn't cost us a result (points) directly and to remember that we were 19th without him.

People are blaming him because he's definitely not making a good case of the opposite, but most are blaming Dyche for persisting with this utter dog of a player.

It has been pointed out to you about 50 times in this thread the points he actually has cost us but you're willfully ignoring and forgetting.

Very Carlin of you honestly, bit weird.

He should have blocked Leicester's first goal, got skinned by Vardy for their second. Gave away a penalty with a stupid handball and was skinned by Vardy a second time when Vardy hit the crossbar (and should have scored).
