2022/23 Michael Keane

The point is that people are over attributing blame to him. I've saw comments of people blaming him for relegation/he'll relegate us if he keeps playing etc.

I'm like a stuck record but to those people Ive said, IMO, he hasn't cost us a result (points) directly and to remember that we were 19th without him.
We are also 19th with him. By that token, he's not making us better.

….we know him well by now. He’s slow and he’s flakey but Dyche clearly prefers him, so I expect he’ll be in the team for the remaining games.

if everybody remains fit, it’s pretty certain what the starting X1 will be. The loss of Coleman is a huge blow as far as leadership, spirit and playing without fear is concerned, but it’s an opportunity for Patterson and I’m sure everybody hopes he grasps it (even Dave).

There's posts in this thread that Michael Keane is the reason we are getting relegated.

My point, and it's a very clear one is the pile on is way OTT.

I've given my reasons for that - mainly any replacement is also very poor and we were wrote off as relegated before he played a single minute this season.

The extent of the cryasing I think is not only misguided, but it's toxic, distracting and unhelpful.

The manager is having to defend the selection of Michael Keane.

That does nothing for the lads confidence. It's reached the point that Dyche would do well to take him out the firing line. Let Conor Maldini Coady come in and work his magic.

Basically what Steven is saying here to a fan blaming Keane for not winning at Leicester. Of course, Coady being in would have meant we got our 4th away win in 2 years.

It’s not over a few games though is it? He’s been here 6 years and bar a spell behind closed doors he’s been atrocious. The fans aren’t thick, they know Keane’s ability level. Dyche is going to lose the fans like Martinez did by sticking by Tim Howard out of stubbornness and spite when he was throwing it in the net every week.

I don't think Coadys level is any higher than Keane.

I think Coady is a terrible defender.

That doesn't mean I think Keane is a good one.

That steven guiness comment is very flippent. Anyone with two eyes in their head could see how flaky keane was at leicester. Is it going to get to the point where because he's being questioned being selected that it becomes a so called witch hunt? i dont see michael keane. I just see a slow clumsy defender. Is nobody allowed to question if hes costing games because of that?

Lets not go down that road. Otherwise flaky poor perfomances can never be questioned on the fear its vindictive. Its not. Everton fans just want to see a solid central defender.
As has been said quite a few times now. If others can be rested for poor displays, why is this suddenly an issue with michael keane. Never mind the fact that other players will be on the bench thinking it doesnt matter how many errors lead to chances from him, im not getting a look in either way.

Any debate is pointless as Keane will keep his place, and I agree the other options aren’t too clever either with Mina and Coady but I’m only applying Dyches logic with coady when he played poorly, He was dropped.

Why isn’t Keane, or even Tarkowski, or any other player or performing?

Well, no.

Clearly I'm not saying to not critique.

I'm saying the criticism is disproportionate and way OTT.

Which it is.

Example - saying Coady in for Keane would have meant we beat Leicester.

Reminder. If we had won, it would have been only our 4th away win in 2 years. Coady played most of the season and we won only once away Vs Bottom of the league Southampton in October. Michael Keane didn't miss an open goal like Calvert-Lewin. Michael Keane didn't drop a clanger an gift a goal like Alex Iwobi. But still, we have fans saying Conor Coady for Michael Keane would have saw a different result. Fans saying we are going down because of Michael Keane. The same fans don't seem to like being told we were down and out without Michael Keane playing a single minute.
