2022/23 Michael Keane

Any debate is pointless as Keane will keep his place, and I agree the other options aren’t too clever either with Mina and Coady but I’m only applying Dyches logic with coady when he played poorly, He was dropped.

Why isn’t Keane, or even Tarkowski, or any other player or performing?

If that's the case then fans really should think twice about pilling on Michael Keane. All players are confidence players - he seems it more than most.

It's self defeating to terror your own player with 4 huge games coming up.

Dyche has explained why with Coady. Same reason Wolves let their captain leave on loan. He thinks he's useless in a back 4.

Well, no.

Clearly I'm not saying to not critique.

I'm saying the criticism is disproportionate and way OTT.

Which it is.

Example - saying Coady in for Keane would have meant we beat Leicester.

Reminder. If we had won, it would have been only our 4th away win in 2 years. Coady played most of the season and we won only once away Vs Bottom of the league Southampton in October. Michael Keane didn't miss an open goal like Calvert-Lewin. Michael Keane didn't drop a clanger an gift a goal like Alex Iwobi. But still, we have fans saying Conor Coady for Michael Keane would have saw a different result. Fans saying we are going down because of Michael Keane. The same fans don't seem to like being told we were down and out without Michael Keane playing a single minute.

Well you're always going to get at least 1 comment that might be far fetched. The fact that the vast majority of Evertonians i know are bemused why he's still be picked says there is something not right. Its not OTT. He along with Godfrey make me very nervous when defending. For a good reason.

Some of the pile on is undeserved, I accept that, and may be self defeating. I also agree there are other players deserving of as much flak as Keane.

We can be frustrated with the inconsistency from dyche though, and that’s why Keane is getting it in the neck. You can forget coady, there is also Mina and Dyches fitness excuse, even though Keane was not playing and no where near match fit, but shoehorned in at the earliest opportunity.

I’m not comfortable with this narrative being set up that it’s the fans’ fault for destroying Keane’s confidence and that’s why he’s crap. If he can’t take scrutiny over his performances then he shouldn’t be a professional footballer. Other players receive far worse than him, look at someone like Maguire who’s been turned into a complete meme by the media.

While we should be considerate of how Keane is treated, equally, it is fair to acknowledge that at times Keane hasn't performed to the standard we require.

But, I do think some of the criticism has been unfair in the sense that there've been other weak links in games, who have received far less criticism for a lot more.

I dunno, I think we're pretty consistent. He was poor vs Newcastle but 90% of the attention was rightfully aimed at Godfrey. Likewise when Myko struggles or Tarkowski or the midfielders. Only really McNeil that's playing pretty well lately.

He's been poor in almost every match he has started even when we kept clean sheets.

Dyche has clearly heard the criticism of Keane and given his response re' players not in the team, Coady, Mina et al. So Keane is going to start and I sincerely hope that it works out over the course of the next four games.

Even with Keane playing there is no game in the premiership that is a foregone conclusion so I will continue to live in hope that we pull something out of the bag.

COYB (Keane included)

i think part of the issue is a lot of Everton fans now think dyche is just going back to his Burnley days and going with Keane no matter how he plays.
As has been stated in the last few days. Coady got dropped pretty quickly for Keane. Keane has since had as many dodgy moments. Dont see him getting the same quick decision to drop as Coady was.
Christ, you do hope that dyche isnt just going from his Burnley days.

We’re conceding more goals because we have literally no goal threat though? We’re conceding more now because despite people wanting to paint dyche as the most negative manager ever he’s done what lampard didn’t and realised we need to find a way to score goals, so he’s pushing people forward, defending higher up the pitch, and we’re taking more risks. The defence certainly isn’t great but if the attack was half way functional it wouldn’t be this bad.
You are right which makes the decision to select Keane who turns like the Titanic and is slower than my 95 yr old mum even more inexplicable

I honestly give Dyche a bit more credit BUT I do get your point.

I think that the dye is cast and we'll know soon enough whether it keeps us up.

I would have thought it was far fetched. But im honestly starting to feel he likes his own players and certain types of players. Thats not such a bad thing. But all of his players were relegated along with him.

Having observed Keane, Coady and Mina, I’m of the opinion Keane is the worst of the 3. Mina being the best. Hasn’t kicked a ball under Dyche for whatever reason.
Concur. Would not trust Mina for the run in however. 50 50 and he is backing out, certain to be eyeing his next transfer
