2023/24 Michael Keane

The problem with going back with him starting is it just creates so much negative tension at kick off.

The opposition undeniably get a lift from seeing him on the team sheet and really sticking him in for Hwang and Cunha to take turns to make the mick out of him was a very very bad idea indeed from the manager.

Supporters and I think his own teammates get nervous he's going to suddenly misplace a pass or raise his arm in the area and it just creates an uncertainty that isn't usually there when it's just Tarks and Jarrad.

I get injuries and all that but you could've maybe gone 4-2-3-1 although I accept Wolves were that much better any formation wouldn't really have mattered.

People genuinely believe that Keane is getting picked every week!

No they dont. There is no need to play him at all unless there are suspensions or injuries. He stubbornly shoe horned him into the side last season and we conceded at an alarming rate. He shoe horned him into the side today and it was lucky to only be 3-0. Burnley away you can get away with. Dont push your luck with this slow turgid tugboat at the back because he's a nightmare and the only reason he hasnt picked him is because he'll get slaughtered for it. He picked him today when there was no need to and he's rightly getting slaughtered for it.

Utter nonsense, he has started once in 17 games.

He has dropped him often, the only manager who has done so for us.

But he is his "boy"?

It makes no sense.
Pretty sure Frank barely let him near a football once Coady & Tarks were brought to the club, but then in comes daddy Dyche and the walking relegation machine goes straight back into the team, week after week for about a dozen times, no matter how many mistakes he makes, as we slid ever close to the drop because he absolutely is Dyche's boy. Hell, as soon as this season started he was first choice again and it was his usual sabotage act against Villa that finally took him out.

None of that means that MK will now be a starter in the side from here on in of course (I doubt he will), but it's perfectly fair and true to say he is very much the go-to boy for Dyche when there is a vacancy to be filled. He's perfectly happy to change the system and shape to get him in the side if needs be, because that's Dyche's default preference. If that doesn't tell you Dyche rates him and has a place for him (albeit not regular starter) I don't know what to tell you.

Well said.

100% this can’t really add anything else

Suggesting Dyche doesn't pick Keane because he'll get slaughtered is simply daft, sorry mate. He doesn't pick Keane because Tarkowski and Branthwaite are both miles better. There was an injury today to Doucoure, so he started Keane instead of Godfrey in an experimental back 5 (or 3). It was crap, Keane was last, as were the rest of them, we got battered, we move on. But the 'stop picking Keane' bandwagon is now in full flow, as though he picks him each week. I do wonder if people realise that without the deduction we're mid table, and a massive improvement on last year, so maybe the manager knows what he's doing to some extent?

He played 45 minutes between the end of August and the Burnley game on 16th December. Once Doucoure is back, it will be another few months before we see Keane again unless there are injuries.
Aye, and when he picks him again, and we lose it'll be the same 'stop picking Keane' record on repeat.

No its not. There was a press conference last season after he continued to pick keane and we conceded 20 goals in 10 games. Double what we conceded in the previous 10 and the journalist put it directly to him that keane was struggling, he worded it politely. Keane was dropped the next game. Its almost like he had to be told.
There was no bloody reason to squeeze him into the side today with branthwaite back.
Dyche had a nightmare today. He's earned some credit in the bank but going back to his boy today. A nightmare.

He comes back into the side every so often and has a good game or scores a goal and something at the back of my brain says "maybe he's not so bad after all?" and then he starts a game a week later and I suddenly remember why I never want to see the guy in a blue shirt ever again.

A truly awful player.
