Migrant Crisis

Out of interest, how were they planning on getting to Canada? Why where they trying to get to Greece if that was the case?

Like I'm going to have the answer to that for crying out loud.

I doubt they even knew themselves. I expect all they knew is they had to get the f*** out of Turkey or risk being sent back to Syria, and Greece looked the best option for onward travel.

Their asylum application had been rejected in Turkey so they were heading for Canada, where they already had family.

I know. Point remains. No matter how tragic the end result, they wern't fleeing immediate danger.

They were living in Istanbul/Turkey for over a year. A place considered safe by the UK home office.

Mr Kurdi was a barber in Damascus before initially fleeing to Turkey, although he did not earn enough money and dreamed of a future in Canada, Ms Moussa has reported.

He paid 4,000 euros to get his family on the dinghy.

The aunt said an application to sponsor the family to go to Canada was rejected in June.

Canadian immigration authorities rejected the application, in part because the family did not have exit visas to ease their passage out of Turkey and because of their lack of internationally recognised refugee status, the aunt told the Ottawa Citizen.

Oh and @Mrk , I think you're misunderstanding me.

You were quick to tell people to not confuse/compare the two, but;

That's confusing migrants with refugees - you can't really compare the two.

Migrants move voluntarily for a better life/job opportunities. Refugees move to avoid being killed.

They're still classed as refugees because they (assumedly) hadn't settled in Turkey.

It's not my definition, that is the definition of migrants/refugees.

In terms of how dense population is in the built up areas of these countries then I would imagine we have a lot more space than most. So what are you suggesting? that there is plenty of land to build on in all nations and migration shouldn't be an issue? That would involve a lot of organisation from Governments but I am all up for that Or am I missing the point as usual and you are suggesting that everyone should be looking to move refugees to the Antarctic?

We have a lot more space than Russia or Argentina, wow, who would have thought that.......

With 4000 euros they could've got at least the wife & kids on a ferry or bought a car to get them to the overland border between Turkey & Greece/Bulgaria.

Who says they'd have been repatriated?

do you just read what your mind wants you to read? life must be very simple for you

"In terms of how dense population is in the built up areas of these countries then I would imagine we have a lot more space than most."

Should I read that differently then........
