Eh? Tacklle ISIS & extremism in general - but don't defeat them unless you want more muslims to become extremists?
'Ordinary' muslims? What's 'ordinary' about ISIS that 'ordinary muslims' would sympathise & tag along with their barbaric ways?
Jesus .... Right ..... Ok. Recruitment for ISIS is easy. Indiscriminate drone strikes, illegal western invasion in the name of oil and commerce. The role of the UK and the U.S. In the rise of Islamic extremism is plain to see. We cannot kill Islam and we cannot defeat ISIS through military force. It would just fan the flames. Anyways this is starting to veer off topic to reveal a typical under current of xenophobia and ignorance
NATO, led by the USA and Obama have been an abject failure over this issue, because the USA will not put boots on the ground. ISIS is not attacking any NATO country and to date has caused us no inconvenience. Turkey is a NATO country and so the whole force of NATO would be applied to it's defence, as per the NATO treaties. ISIS would be destroyed within a week and they know it. Therefore Turkey is a safe country.......
Euuurrrgh! Ok this may or may not be the case. However, your opinions have possibly been formed by media representation. Have you spoken to many Muslims asking how they feel about such matters? Im guessing not. I could be wrong.I honestly believe a lot of 'moderate muslims' sympathise with ISIS a lot more than they do us mate, which is why they're usually reluctant to come out and condone such actions. You look at some barbaric events around the world and how many come out and try to actually justify such actions, that for any sensible thinking person is absolutely disgraceful. I was only reading the other day about a woman in Afghanistan who was wrongfully accused of burning the Koran and beaten to death by a gang of over 100 men and this was actually celebrated by some high ranking officials. Imagine thinking that beating a woman to death for burning a book is OK and then realise what you're dealing with.
Turkey wouldn't grant them exit visas.With 4000 euros they could've got at least the wife & kids on a ferry or bought a car to get them to the overland border between Turkey & Greece/Bulgaria.
Who says they'd have been repatriated?
I know. Point remains. No matter how tragic the end result, they wern't fleeing immediate danger.
They were living in Istanbul/Turkey for over a year. A place considered safe by the UK home office.
Oh and @Mrk , I think you're misunderstanding me.
You were quick to tell people to not confuse/compare the two, but;
Turkey wouldn't grant them exit visas.
I imagine it to be if they wanted to get through one of the borders you mentioned.You think an exit visa's a necessity?
They consider it safe for UK nationals. They're not considering Syrian Kurds.
I imagine it to be if they wanted to get through one of the borders you mentioned.
