There's little point arguing the politics because the situation these people find themselves in, be they refugees or economic migrants, requires an immediate humanitarian response and interim support until the individual circumstances can be verified.
However in the meantime all Western governments should be doing everything they can do to alleviate the suffering of many innocents by setting up support centres and camps in Turkey and either in the first ports of entry in Europe or by transporting people to other sites within Europe.
Yes. I see your did not answer the question.
First ones to say 'help them'
Last ones to contribute towards paying for it.
Yes, but again its a case of 'who pays'.
There are many European countries who are more than happy to let the Americans pay to keep their borders secure and won't meet their 2% GDP obligations.
There are seriously countries that try and get away with not paying anything if they can avoid it.
You know nothing about the work that I do or the 'sacrifices' my family make. I live comfortably. I could live a lot more comfortably if I chose to.
Every western Government and the EU have contingency budgets and reserves (well maybe not Greece).
People are dieing and we're talking about accounting?
You can't pay any charity to those in suffering if you are bankrupt.
The west is not bankrupt my friend.
Yes. I've seen far too many a do-gooder who makes huge statements but suddenly vanish when it comes to getting their wallet out.
You'll be the first to complain if your standard of living declines as taxes are increased to pay to help the 'refugees'.
I've seen this all before far too many times.
Every western Government and the EU have contingency budgets and reserves (well maybe not Greece).
People are dieing and we're talking about accounting?
Absolutely. This Malthusian argument that we have no space. Or this economic argument that we can't afford to let people in. We've lost complete sight of human compassion and decency. All I'm seeing is people reverting to mistrust and cynicism. It's deeply worrying in my opinionEvery western Government and the EU have contingency budgets and reserves (well maybe not Greece).
People are dieing and we're talking about accounting?
I think you are doing this poster a great disservice. He and his family help people less fortunate than themselves through the work he does at I imagine considerable opportunity cost to his family.

The Saudi daily Makkah Newspaper published a cartoon - widely shared on social media - that showed a man in traditional Gulf clothing looking out of a door with barbed wire around it and pointing at door with the EU flag on it.
"Why don't you let them in, you discourteous people?!" he says.
