Is it more likely that rrfugees / migrants ould be resettled in Weybridge or Ellesmere Port, for example? Would local educaion services, health services etc be under great stress in working class areas?

There are practical problems to be assessed irrespective on the stance of the gutter press.

Exactly this.

There has to be some reality and structure attached to any programme of assistance.

However some react based on sentiment and political expidency

Rather than reality.

It's also not generally those people that are impacted either.

They aren't hypothetical arguments btw, Caesar did get stabbed to death. The Spanish did carry out a genocide in Central and South America.
it is hypothetical to speculate whether events may have been better if certain things didn't happen or if things didn't happen. what we can only really be guided by are trends and precedent.

Well for one, if Caesar hadn't spared Brutus after Pharsalus then he would not have found himself being stabbed to death by him a couple of years afterwards.

Or if the Tlaxcalans hadn't helped Cortes after the disaster on the bridges, and instead butchered the wounded and exhausted Spaniards on the spot, then their (and the rest of native mesoamerican) culture might still exist now and loads of them wouldnt have been enslaved, worked to death and generally abused.

And the parallel to this situation is?

well if it is sentiment to say lives need to be saved by any means then thank god for sentiment and god help us if we have to live another year among realists who are scared to act

But you know that's what will happen if we take in a load. The poor & sick who've been here all their lives will feel the results more than anyone else, despite being the ones who've borne the full hit of the latest round of austerity. I shudder to think what excuses this'll give the barstids for the next round........

When the oil-rich arab states are doing absolutely sod-all to help out, it becomes a bit too much.

And therefore the irony of a more civilised west becomes lost....

The mid east nations don't help so the west wont

Had to laugh, Joe Andreson criticisng the Government and saying Liverpool will take a few hundred Provided the Government gives the council money to take care of them. What a joke. How about just put them on the Council's bill Joe?

Yeah state of it.

Get in the real world Joe Anderson

Political opportunism from him. Made worse in that his council refuses to pay for what he's offering.

Joke.

This is what worries cynics like me in this thread.

Joe Anderson needs to get a grip.

I'm not scared to act.

I say it is better to act intelligently and wisely

Than react emotionally and unwisely.

There's too much of the latter and not the former in this thread.

what we can only really be guided by are trends and precedent.

Trends, eh?

Nigeria, Mali, Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Israel, Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Spain, France, UK, Russia. Chechnya, USA, Phillipines, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, Burma, India, Timor-Leste, Bali.......The list is not exhaustive.

Notice any trend?

All countries that either contain fundamentalist muslim terrorist elements, or have suffered muslim fundamentalist terrorist atrocities.

The north of Liverpool has suddenly become heavily populated by lots of different migrants lately . There is a big difference down county rd and Walton vale from even a couple of years ago.

Don't take this as a racist post because it's not how I mean it
