Migrant Crisis

Is that such an awful thing? Is this not what Australia does? Wanting the best for the improvement of your country? Bad man me.

They do .. and it applies to everyone regardless of nationality, cast, creed etc.

We also have quite stringent immigration laws in the UK, which my wife was subjected to, which have been totally overlooked / discarded in respect of the "migrants" / "refugees".

For the record the UK immigration laws include: the spouse / applicant to have substantial amount of funds over a minimum 6 months, confirmed ability to house yourself in a certain standard of accommodation, certified fluency in English and no access to benefits ... and what is effectively a 5 year probationary period. For the record my missus is Singaporean.

the best idea would be to REGULATE it.

at present, the government can only give us figures on how many LEGAL migrants we have coming in. they have NO IDEA on the amount of ILLEGAL migrants are entering our country.

well course they dont, they are illegal...errr

so my basic understanding seems to be trouble in home country, people flee said country and now they need somewhere to go?

MY one question is what is stoppng others in the future fleeing in danger because of whatever is going on and ending up in countries such as ours? I mean i'm all for human rights and helping people but at what point is just letting them into countries not the answer anymore?
the answer is clearly working towards an end to conflict. best way of doing that..end poverty. lots of stats to back that up. otherwise who is to say who will need to move and where to. the UK has been immune to a lot of things thanks to being an island andhaving a favourable climate. how long will it last with the economic issues we are facing and climate change? where are we all going to go? how much sympathy will any nation have with us?

Correct me if I'm wrong lads, but don't some immigration rules get passed over when someone is seeking/granted asylum?

Interesting angle that the Hungarian parliament just approved measures to seal the borders. One is reminded of Hungary's role in 1989 and the dismantling of the Iron Curtain which led to the mass exodus of East Germans through Hungary.
Believe it was Twain who said history doesn't repeat itself but rhymes

wasn't that Toyah ?

What I mean is, if innocent folk are in danger, this is no time to worry about paperwork and regulations. That can be done retrospectively.

The vast majority of them not being, y'know, terrorists and that.

Your good intentions are admirable indeed.

Can you clarify whether you'd want to welcome absolutely anybody/everybody into the UK/EU, regardless of numbers? If they're in need, we should just do it as its 'the right thing to do'?

You may struggle to get an answer for this.......

Merkel and co have a lot to answer for in this respect. They turned on the tap and have no idea how to switch it off......

Indeed -and it gets on my tits a considerable amount to hear people in the press claiming that they are doing more than we are, even though we aren't part of the free travel area, were much more open than they were when the likes of Poland joined, have spent more than them on international aid for years and weren't consulted when they made that announcement in the first place.

I see however that they have let that fourteen year old Palestinian girl who Merkel made cry live on German TV by telling her she could be deported at any time, and that "they cant all come over", have temporary leave to remain though.

absolutely anybody/everybody? don't think that is going to crop up, do you? as for numbers that surely depends on the level of crises people are facing and how we are set up structurally. If I believed constant migration had no ill effects then I have no objection to any of it just out of some strange nationalistic principle

i see your point. so are we just going to ship in 1000's of refugee's and not do any sort processing??

That is nonsense, though - none of the people in Hungary are in danger, nor are the ones at Lampedusa, Calais or the various Greek islands. They have to wait where they are whilst the countries that they want to have house and support them sort things out
