MLB 2023

I would have loved it! Don’t get many complete games these days. That being said, he threw very few pitches during the first seven innings but that eighth inning he must have thrown at least 20-25 and they were starting to hit him that time around the order.
Just nice to have an excellent SP performance and a 1-2-3 9th inning. This bullpen has taken months off my life this year 😂
Don’t know who’s given me more stress out of Ottavino, Diekman or Reed!

I think Garrett and Ottavino (mostly) are fine as long as they’re not closing.

Diekman is the type of reliever I can’t stand. At least Houser has adapted well to the long reliever role after being horrendous as a starter. It’s remarkable how many games they pissed away already.

I've just bagged a couple of tickets for the Giants vs the Padres at Oracle Patk, Saturday night, should be an event!

Cheers for your advice @wm02 and @SerenityNigh - if you're over for Everton (or Forest Green Rovers! ) I'll return the favour.

Nice! Haven't been to a Giants game since they were at the 'Stick. Some people enjoy going early for batting practice but if you just make the game it should be fun and relaxed. Food and beer at most stadiums are good but go ahead and get that 2nd mortgage approved first. Not sure there's any Yank equivalent of the pre-match pub experience but there should be enough good food choices in that part of town that you can figure something out that satisfies. Giants Padres is a lesser derby I think, so that might be fun. The Bay in summer can get chilly at night so bring a jacket. Have fun!

I guess one last thing, do you understand the game well enough or do you need an elaborate and difficult explanation of the rules? I remember attending a game in San Diego and an engineer from HP was trying to explain the game to some German visitors and he began by discussing the infield fly rule... my head's still twisted about that...

Cheers! Would've loved to have seen Candlestick Park, waterfront will have to do!

Yeah, I've got a basic understanding, played a bit of softball growing up overseas. I think I've got access to MLB via Apple TV but the games are stupid o clock our time, otherwise I'd start trying to dip in. Might see what's on YouTube.

Oracle should be way better than Candlestick, the best part of which was the name.

One invention that will not be missed is the dual purpose stadiums of Candlestick's era. Trying to accommodate both a rectangle and half a square with a big arc at the far end leads to lot of bad seats.

They aren't right at the top of the 20th Century's worst inventions list with things like leaded gasoline and chlorofluorocarbons, but they're up there.

Wish I coulda seen Willie play. Him and Koufax are two from yesteryear that boggle the mind to imagine how good they were.
Willie is, by any reasonable standard, the GOAT. Did anything you might want a player to do, and for decades. Williams was a better hitter, but he was never the monster in the field Mays was.

Koufax had a short run, but like Gayle Sayers in oblongball, he might be the greatest pure talent to play the game. Few were ever so feared at their peak at the position.

I’m with you. Mays was the GOAT.
His numbers are astounding and he was, by some distance, the best defensive center fielder of his era. Some of my favorites:

Led the league with over 50 home runs twice in his career a decade apart.
Led the league in steals four times.
