2019/20 Moise Kean

Well that’s quite a niche category. There haven’t been many other 19 year olds leading the line for any team in Premier League history, so there isn’t really any comparable data. We have no previous benchmark. However we could look at some similar numbers from similarly young / inexperienced strikers.

If I said the following strikers have scored more than 15 goals in all competitions (excluding European goals) while under the age of 23:

Fernando Torres, Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen, Javier Hernandez, Romelu Lukaku, Dele Alli, Christian Benteke, Mario Balotelli and Gabriel Jesus

You might not be surprised as they are generally considered elite players who were once at the top of their game (although one might say thats precisely the bar Kean should set as he aims to reach those heights)

However if I also said that these players achieved that feat too:

Saido Berahino, Mikkael Forssell, Alan Smith, Kevin Doyle, Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Then truthfully, we should expect big numbers from Kean. We shouldn’t set the bar low. He’s a big signing, I’d hope with big ambitions, playing for a big club in the best league.... step up Moisty.

Right... so you're demanding he does something basically unprecedented and then shift the goalposts. None of them have done it in their first season in a new country, have they?

So your "reasonable" expectation of a player we have bought for his contribution over the next 3 years is that he performs at a level nobody else ever has.

This is why we can't have nice things.
