Isn't that akin to signing a creative midfielder for example and asking them to play DM and they struggle to create from their own half?
Or asking a giant centre back to play full back to stale a claim and they struggle with speed up and down the wing?
Do you see what I mean?
99% of young players don't get the right to be played only in the position of their choice. In the minutes you are given, you have to make enough of an impression to force yourself in to the team however that looks. All top class Footballers are capable of playing multiple positions. Most top strikers you can think of have started their careers playing out wide or deeper as part of the midfield.
Mbappe, Griezmann, Suarez, Aubamayang, Firmino, Lacazette, Benzema, Lukaku, Higuain and Cavani all played in different areas of the pitch when they first broke through. Even DCL is a striker by trade but has had to make an impression out wide too. It doesn't just go for strikers either, loads of top players in other outfield positions started out playing in other positions, it's not something unheard of within Football.
I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that, given that we've been shocking all season and Kean has barely played for us, that he's not showing enough in training. If you disagree, that's fine, it's just one of many possible assumptions.
If we all agree that you earn game time based on your performances in training, and if he's not showing enough in training then it's reasonable to assume that's why Silva hasn't been giving him game time. The minutes he has given him, he hasn't exactly shone, and last night was a prime example of that. He came off and the team sprang into life with a bit more energy from Theo out there.
Now, if he's chomping at the bit as he should be, I refuse to believe that the reason why he played so badly last night was because he was stood in a different area of the pitch to that where he prefers. Nonsense.
It's people making excuses for him. We all want him to do well, but it's still fair to say that the lad needs to be much better when he's given these opportunities.
