It was ruthlessness shown from Ronald Koeman which pushed Ross Barkley away from out club and led him to running his contract down.
I'm not necessarily saying that Duncan did the wrong thing or trying to say that managers cannot be ruthless but there's a fine line between using these moments to teach and develop a young footballer and completely shooting a player and his confidence.
I've got no issues with a manager being ruthless but it needs to follow up with constructive feedback and training to work on the issues/concerns that are in place. I really hope that Dunc and the coaching staff will follow this up with a real focus on how he can imrpove and develop under the Everton model.
I’m sure it will, Koeman didn’t care about this club and didn’t have man-management skill. Ferguson, by the looks of it, clearly can man-manage players so I’d expect a very tough talking meeting with the rules firmly laid down of why and what he expects
