2019/20 Moise Kean

Anthony Gordon has had to cope with the same players as Kean but has shown workrate and an appetite for the game.

I think supporters would happily give Kean plenty of time to settle and develop as a player if they could see the determination and application.

All I see is a young lad who to me seems to be carrying a couple of pounds who just does not work hard enough.
I like Gordon a lot but this idea that he's proven he has it and Kean isn't worth a penny is way too far apart imo. Both have a lot to prove and a lot of potential and we should be getting behind both.

That all you're taking from my post? Says a lot in itself tbh.

Ok anyway mate, you keep banging the drum. I wish we all had your superior level of critical analysis when it comes to young players.

Wouldn't bother replying if I was you as I cba going any further into it with someone who's blatantly just being a contrarian.

There was a poster on the old bluekipper who was like this fella. Knew everything about everything. Used to post titus bramble was the best centre half in the league.
I think its this fella above by the way he posts.

I don't think that is what I said but there is no doubt that Gordon has impressed the manager and Kean obviously hasn't.
People keep saying this too and ignoring that Gordon is competing with dross at his position while Kean is competing with a budding superstar and a solid striker. Of course he is playing less!

None of the players that Brands paid a transfer fee for will be sold this summer unless a crazy offer comes in that will help our FFP position.
I don't think that is correct... for purely financial reasons.

I think there is a core of players who are simply not for sale unless somebody offers silly money.
I think most others could be for sale at a price, the price varying from player to player. I think Kean could be sold because he is the most saleable of the players who had very little impact and very little football in this season.
I don't believe we have endlessly deep pockets and I think players will be sold to generate funds.

He is young and I would be happy if we could afford to keep him around in the hope that he will progress but I don't think that will happen.

The only things you've got wrong are the age and the number of players he backs up. Kean is the 19 year old back up to two of our better players. Saying he isn't playing because he isn't rated over looks that there is a very good reason he doesn't play.
Yeah, but he doesn't play at all really. Pretending like a variety of managers haven't taken a look at him and said he's not a starter and not even getting many substitute appearances is a bit disingenuous. Richarlison and DCL are going to be our starters when fully fit as they are one area where we have genuine quality and they have a good understanding. However, football is a squad game and the fact he is getting no starts at all doesn't bode well for him.

The problem is he might start those 3 games and do nothing just like DCL has done nothing for the last 6. I want to see him play but we have been so atrocious with the ball that I can't see it going well and then you all will come in here shouting "see, see, we knew he was crap" like he can just use the force or something to get the ball to himself within 25 yards of goal. It's a bad spot. But that's also why we shouldn't give up.

Im not demanding miracles from him tho. I’m not even overly bothered if he scores.

What I want to see is that he has the fundamentals required to be a professional footballer and not a complete liability on the pitch.

Even when DCL isn’t scoring he still puts a shift in and contributes to the team performance. Kean doesn’t, he just runs round in his own half like a mad man fouling people and putting us under pressure, and then gets knackered after 30 seconds

It isn't pure money I mean though. I think the FFP impact of selling players is the chief consideration, and none of Brands signings are in a position yet to be a help there without also hurting the quality of the squad significantly save for Bernard because he was a free to start with.

I of course think that's a bit over the top with the criticism so I guess we will leave it at that.

Do we ever rotate? Almost all of our changes from game to game are enforced by injuries (which is often) or tactical tweaks. We've spent almost the entire second half of the season not tweaking the front two as a tactic so Kean hasn't played. I get what you're saying but thinking about it I feel like reality at Everton is that if you aren't in the starters you're waiting for an injury to get in.

You have never seen Kean run round like a mad man giving fouls away and then getting knackered after 30 seconds?
Yes I've seen him foul people.

What I'm trying to figure out is how we reconcile these views that he doesn't care and isn't trying with the ones where he's out of control and putting too much into it. Someone please help me understand how this works.

Prepare yourself for an answer along the lines of:
1) Maybe the manager has asked him to do that
2) How do you know he's not just conserving energy
3) He's no more knackered looking than XYZ
4) Something about "the transition phase"
