Its definitely a new day at Everton, when we are now top 10 in the world in spending. Cant say that we cant compete financially anymore. Imagine now what we could do with a good DOF behind that financial backing! Would then be a team who could regularly go into the european cups and defeat the likes of Monaco, Roma, Dortmund and Atheltico.

I think lost in this narrative is that we lost Lukaku and Barkley due to lack of reputation and Euro football. They were practically our whole team last year. To get players that want to play for a second tier at this point club, is more difficult. HOWEVER, the absolute lack of coherence in our transfer strategy is embarrassing. THAT BEING SAID, we haven't screwed ourselves TOO badly for the future. HUGE wasted opportunity this yearr. It's been awful. I mean, BFS is our manager. Seriously. But I believe A new D of F can come in here pretty quickly, pick a better manager, and get a couple players in here that would make a difference.

To look at it in isolation, regardless of the seemingly high fees, Sigurdsson / Pickford / Walcott / Rooney are very good players still. Thought we got value in Vlasic / Onyenkuru / Sandro.

I didn't like the Keane signing, but his talent is good, just needs confidence/continuity. Think Tosun will actually be decent, too.

Klaassen was the one that was just unecessary. Think he's a decent player, but that's too much, and not what we needed.

Having said that, none of this matters if we can't get a proper football approach and strategy.

In Morgan, Mori, Williams, Jags, Martina, Klaassen, Baines, McCarthy (when healthy), that's salary and fees that could be gone without any team impact. Get another legit CB, RB, box to box MID, and we could be really good.

...the other misleading aspect of these comparison stats is the baseline of quality and balance teams have. Bayern have been strong for a long time and build on that strength via the introduction of one or two new players per season. Everton are (trying) to assemble a squad from a poor baseline.

So much spent for so little gain.

If there is any consolation it is that with the sales of Lukaku, Barkley, Deulofeu, Cleverley, Lennon, Barry and the loan fees for Mirallas, Sandro, Besic and others we have retrieved about 130 m with probable fees still to come for Sandro and possibly Klaasen.
