More spent than Bayern?

Not his fault, im sure even he could of spent that better.

Aside from that, it shows there is money to spend at Everton, one thing that will go in our favor when we want to attract a new manager, just a shame whoever wants to spend it will have to work with Walsh

Bought Walcott.

Hands down better than anything Koeman bought that wasn't a goalkeeper

I think they do this a lot dont they hoover up all the best players in Germany when their contracts are running down

Yes they do. they do tend to rule the roost in Germany and pick off talents from the other German clubs, as they see fit. They've got Goretzka now and will likely pick up the likes of Julian Brandt for his cheap sell on clause in the summer too. That's how they roll.

Its definitely a new day at Everton, when we are now top 10 in the world in spending. Cant say that we cant compete financially anymore. Imagine now what we could do with a good DOF behind that financial backing! Would then be a team who could regularly go into the european cups and defeat the likes of Monaco, Roma, Dortmund and Atheltico.

The thing is though, that a large percentage of the money spent has come from players sold. If you look around the squad now, you would reallly struggle to find a Lukaku or Barkley that we could flog.

...the other misleading aspect of these comparison stats is the baseline of quality and balance teams have. Bayern have been strong for a long time and build on that strength via the introduction of one or two new players per season. Everton are (trying) to assemble a squad from a poor baseline.
This! They're able to make small refinements and can choose which place to improve or strengthen in depth as there's an abundance there.

Whereas we aren't able to take the slow, tinkering approach as our squad has aged, stricken with a lack of real quality and missing in key areas.

In all reality, how many areas of the starting XI didn't need filling or improving? And to be fair, there's still an abundance of failings there.

This will not be a quick process and it's only being lengthened further by our slapdash approach and numerous questionable signings.

We're still in need of a new left back, better central defenders, more strength and creativity in the middle and new options up front.

Premier League club to Premier League club you're getting had off.

I genuinely don't get why teams don't just shop abroad for talent. Yes we tried it with 25m Klaassen and it didn't pay off immediately and we don't know if he'll settle in the future, but we also got done big style by paying 25m for Keane, 45m for Sigurdsson was far too much, 27m Bolasie was about 26m too much.

30m Euro gets you an absolute top quality player from abroad. Spurs just got Lucas Moura for 25m!

People were saying the same when Chelsea got Bakayoko.

Stupid analysis.

First, wages. Sides in and around us on that list are in a different stratosphere in that respect.

Second, outgoings. We've lost key players regularly for years for admittedly big amounts - it's been largely sell to buy.

Bit of an unfair comparison to be honest when Bayern constantly rinse the talent from the rest of the league on the cheap. Not only that but they also sign players on a free that would cost millions in a normal transfer.

That being said it's clear that Walsh has failed at his job. Let's leave the hyperbole alone for a moment and look at it sensibly - Walsh quite simply hasn't put the scouting work in required to pick up promising young players for relatively low fees on a consecutive basis. Instead we've fallen for the Damien Comolli trap and buying based on analytics.

It is an unfair comparison but we should still legitimately expect to see far more than what we have.

Sustainable progress achieved year on year should be the aim. Few expected much more and that is a modest expectation.

What is indisputable is that Walsh should be fired without delay before any further damage can be inflicted.

We are not a wealthy club and cannot afford medium to long term to throw good money after bad. That will eventually catch up on us and the consequences may be severe.

Bayern have a lot of players who came through the academy, the likes of Alaba Kimmich Muller Lahm (who retired now),and they have the advantage of a hegemony over German clubs as they take advantage of that with Bosman and transfers not being expensively skewed like they are in the PL and they are far ahead of any team in Germany financially, and all the German players who are top tier in the Bundesliga all want to play for them, there is a reason the German media call Bayern "Hollywood FC" and they are a massive draw in the Bundesliga based players, and playing for them is like being a hollywood star, you get the glitz and glamour and $$$ and best chance of trophies.

This is a sad indictment on our club of how the recruitment side needs ripping up and overhauling starting with getting rid of Walsh.

Another sad indictment in that list in the 2 top teams who are state run clubs and before the Arabs bought them had 3 league titles and about 15 trophies between them.i like what i've heard from the new UEFA boss recently on curbing the financial power of clubs state run,a FFP 2.0 is being mooted now, hopefully it happens soon. They are the reason for how high transfer and wages have rocketed and both clubs need to be curbed as they are practically using a cheat code in modern day football. How can any team compete when a country uses a % of it's GDP to prop those clubs up and use them as advertising to deflect from both countries terrible human rights and modern day slavery issues.
