More spent than Bayern?

The thing is though, that a large percentage of the money spent has come from players sold. If you look around the squad now, you would reallly struggle to find a Lukaku or Barkley that we could flog.
Im not sure you realize that the list is of total money spent on the CURRENT squad. Its not a 2 year transfer expenditure list, so it shows how much we have invested in the current players compared to other teams, which shows very clearly that when the top 5-7 teams can afford to build a squad costing roughly 350 million, we can too.

The problem I have with this list is the fact Aston Villa will have likely featured on it for a small time before things went wrong for them. They sold their best players and didn't replace them with quality and their owner lost interest. This could easily be us. To say we have arrived with the elite and we can compete with the top teams is extremely shortsighted.

All of the top teams have players that would command huge transfer fees if they were to go up for sale. Who do we have? I can't think of anyone in our squad who we could realistically get over £30m for.

Neymar and Pogba's transfers have distorted the market. Our spend has largely been recent so our spending has been distorted.

The worry though is that our spending will be amortised on the books over the coming years which is going to severely limit our future spending.

Im not saying its all been wasted. But coming from where we were, living on a budget every year, to finally getting money and ending up with this squad is a bit sickening..
Go on mate you can say it has been wasted, because frankly it has. If only moyes had had a fraction of these riches 2006-2009 when we were regularly finishing 5th and 6th! It is so Everton, that we have waited a lifetime to have some serious clout in the transfer market and have a poorer team now thanks to the efforts of Walsh and co.

He will play him, sometimes takes players time to bed in.

we won't be villa though will we. Look at the season, it literally couldn't have gone any worse. I can't imagine how we'd manage to have an even worse season. Baring in mind the mass changes which have caused transition, three managers, a glut of very long injuries, the barkley disruption, playing half the season without a striker failing to replace a 25 goal striker, playing the whole season with martina in the first team and pretty much every single player performing well below their standard.

... and we'll still more than likely finish 7th. If we can't even get close to relegation this season, we won't any time soon.
