Move Over Steve Round - I'm the New Tactician !!! -- THT

There's no way on this earth that Moyes will play 3-5-2. especially against Spurs. And I'd probably [Poor language removed] myself if we lined up that way on Wednesday. I think it might work against some teams though.

James, I know he wouldn't and I'm not saying he should for Spurs but I certainly think it would give us more options. Something has to be changed as the current formation / line up aint working !

Wow. That's when I know Arteta has had some stinkers. When LCAB jumps on the bench Arteta bandwagon.

Yeah - the "wait until he shows up" is rapidly running out of steam for me LCAB. Rapidly. Rodwell has shown better poise in there.

I DO NOT DIG absence , Cali' . Whomever it is , chick' .

I know mate. and It needs something drastic as you say. Not just rotating Saha/Anichebe/ or Osman/Rodwell/Arteta every game. Which unfortunately seems to be his only way of solving the problem. It's obvious the problem is not going to be solved by any change in personnel available (any time soon, which is what we need).
I genuinely believe that the principal problem now is one of confidence. Loss of form in key players and rumours of unrest can not help morale. The strikers feel under pressure and anxiety makes it worse. This increases pressure on the defence as they know that one mistake will likely cost us 3 points. We need a shake up coz we can't just stagger along waiting for the new Kevin Brock to spark our season.
Other games I've seen they've tried but been snatching at chances and lacking in ideas at times. Today they looked totally lacking in belief.

Someone said that after the West Brom game and having watched it again, it was complete and utter bollocks, and just shows you how certain sections of our support will make up things to drive a player out of the club. Embarassing really, but not surprising.

It just seems very Matt Damon esque criticism to me. He's had a number of niggling injuries, there was even a report in the Dutch press about him going to see a specialist about something. None of that gets taken into consideration, it didn't even get a mention. The fact that he was going off with cramp tells me it's a physical thing. Lets not forget that he had a similar problem when he first joined the club, so his supposed 'bad attitude' isn't a definite in my eyes.

That, and he's playing out of position, a position he has very limited experience in when you look at his career. He played well there when Arteta was flying alongside him, but that hasn't been the case this season, and he's clearly struggled. He's been poor, there's no getting away from that, I certainly don't want him in our starting eleven at present, but to make him out to be this definite, ultimate snide going by rumours on internet forums is madness in my opinion. The same people will tell you Arteta (this season) and Cahill (last season) aren't arsed, two of the most honest, hardworking players we have at the club - a player like Heitinga hasn't got a chance really.

Why would any player embarrass themselves and purposely play poorly to get a move? It just doesn't make sense to me. I think there's a major difference between someone struggling and someone who isn't arsed at all. I think back to the last Stoke game where he was much better in terms of performance. What, did he decide that was it? I'll have a good game and then stop trying again...

I agree with thee. GP.

He's not playing purposely badly. He just doesn't look at all interested.

I guess a lot of that is up for interpretation; you call it post-world cup tiredness, or playing out of position. You're definitely at least partly right, but as the sourced up folk have said, he's pining for a move elsewhere. Surely, putting two and two together, you can see why he could be accused of not being bothered?

I think there is a big distinction between performances suffering due to the first three, and the last point, and a lot of people seem to be jumping that gap rather too quickly imo...

The problem is after Man City , I thought we would kick on which made Davie's decision to not play any strikers all the more ridiculous ! It's no point saying we will scour the market looking for Top Players on loan when you don't even give Beckford a run of games . Saha has had a few and still not scored in almost a year, Yak is going so give Becks a few games in the side and let's see if he's up to the job !

I agree. Moyes keeps saying that the approach play is good, but that we're not putting chances away, which is down to personnel rather than tactics or formations. The only player that's looked close to scoring is Beckford. He doesn't have the hold up play in his game to play as a lone striker, so we need to pair him with either Saha or Yakubu. Having Cahill away is the ideal time to try it for a month and see how we can make it work. Chopping and changing all the time isn't doing anything for us.

The problem is Billy that Yak is going ! Saha doesn't keep the ball either , moyes should have done this at west ham and played timmy deeper ! However, let's see what happens now Cahill has gone .

I'm no big time historian like THT, LCAB or RFUS , although I did attend games in the very late 1970's early 80's - I used to just stand on the Street End on my tip toes and just try and take it all in !

But ask any of the 'heads' on here to name the team from 1985 and they could rattle it off in seconds. Back then, we had ELEVEN MEN and one sub ( until it changed to three) and every one knew the starting line-up, from the goalie through to the forward and wingers.

Now, it's like a question on an old A Level Maths test.

Q 1.1 : A team coach leaves Finch Farm containing 19 playing staff and 11 auxiliary staff and one team manger. The coach travels at an average speed of 53 miles per hour for three hours.

Out of the 24 playing staff only 11 can be selected from the 19 to play in a 4-5-1 formation with a single goalkeeper.

Q.1.2 How long is it before A : the team are a goal down
b : Losing faith
c : the manger changes the formation to accommodate a possible draw / win scenario

Q.1.3 If the team loses, how many of the original 19 should be allowed to return to Finch Farm ?

......................Howard.....................

Neville.......Jags.....Distin...........Baines

Coleman....Fellaini.....Rodwell......Pienaar

...........Yakubu...........Beckford...........

This is a MUST next match.

It won't be Yakubu sadly, but otherwise, definitely.

Excellently put mate. Far too complicated these days , I don't want everyone on here to think I'm against 442 as this would be my preferred formation ! The reason for the whole 352 thing is that I know moyes doesn't trust 4 in midfield ! Cast your minds back to Hull away last season in the post press conference our Davie said "people have been telling me to play 442 well we did that tonight and were 3 down in half an hour" !! Davie needs to have more than one formation that we can change but the problem is he's become blinded by the 451. Yes it's done great but great sides need to be able to adapt , it seems we can't and if we don't score the first goal often we are in trouble !!

It happens every few years - football evolves. Moyes has stuck with a 4-5-1 which is a lot less fluid than the 4-5-1 Barcelona use, which is effectively a 4-3-3. Without the players pushing on intelligently, it becomes a flat and negative formation.

When Everton were in form, the formation worked. However, now that we're not and bereft of confidence, Moyes needs to go back to basics with a 4-4-2. Present an attacking option up front with two designated strikers and have two lines of four for solidarity.

It does look that way. Unless we get a hefty fee or a good quality replacement on the cheap, I'd rather perservere with the Yak.
