Or we could rush in and make a massive balls up with it. Depends how negative you want to be.

This makes the most sense to be honest. Ok so we all want something to happen ASAP because we're all big kids and hate being kept waiting.

As a ridiculous example what if Jose Mourinho said he would join on the 10th June but couldn't confirm any earlier because of personal reasons and prior club commitments.

Should we tell him to do one just so we can appoint a new manager ASAP?

We don't know what's going on. We want to, but we can't.

We no doubt have spoken to his agent etc, but we've not offered him the job, as we've not decided who to hire yet.

It suggests that he wants it, but won't jump ship from Wigan until he's offered it formally - which of course is normally how it works, the only reason we're having this conversation, is that Dave 'rent a quote' Whelan has chosen to play his private meetings with his manager, out in public.

The fact that we haven't offered him anything yet, would suggest to me, that we're not overly convinced. I don't think he's Kenwrights first choice now tbh, as if he was I think it'd happened by now. I think he's being left dangling while we consider others.

IMHO, I think he has been the NO 1 choice for the owner but the club are worried about the backlash from the fans as he is not universally accepted as the NO 1 choice by the fan base.

If I was Bill I would have my media machine blitz the local and national press tp pave the way for the fans acceptance - even if this delays things by a few weeks.

We all know what will happen, kenwright will piss about until martinez and periera all get offers at other clubs or stay on at wigan/porto so kenwright can bring in an internal on the cheap and say "I had little options as my other targets went away" absolute disgrace this you know its coming citeh get their man already, stoke will no doubt get their man whilst bill arses around time after time someone on here said alan stubbs should die, no how about bill kenwright the devious lying Redcoat goes and dies that would be Christmas come early for bluenose maybe then and only then can everton football club get their respect back.

Agree with that. If he was our first choice Whelan would already be saying how he’s talking to Everton. These latest developments suggest that is not the case.

Do you think Martinez and Whelan plan it out together though? As in, Whelan is always talking Martinez up, part of the great reputation Martinez has is from Whelan’s comments in the media over the years. Could they sit down together and decide to try and flush out Everton/Stoke/Malaga by Whelan coming out and stating the 24 hours thing, while Martinez remains quiet and dignified with his public image? Nothing has really come of it, so they’ve extended the timeframe. I’m going to guess that with no big Championships this Summer to work media, and a far from stellar playing career that Martinez isn’t really in a position to be without work for too long. If no one speaks to them by next week and a job offer isn’t likely, then he’ll stay at Wigan. Let’s face it, if Martinez can get Wigan promoted next season, then this time next Summer his stock will be pretty high. Wigan won’t be financial minnows in the Championship either, so it’s not out of the question that he couldn’t achieve promotion.

We don't know what's going on though, Everton will want to pay as little compensation as possible, Whelan's having these meetings in public to big up Martinez so as to drum up interest and get a better deal for him. It's all part of the dance.

If Martinez was staying he'd have said. Whelan wants to force compensation out of Everton or whomever.

I think he's always been on the shortlist, but we're making sure that there's nothing better out there before formally moving for him.

I think the relegation has hampered his credibility both on the terraces & in the boardroom, he lost some of his lustre the minute that was confirmed & that probably stopped this being, more or less cut & dried. Personally, I still think Pereira has got a good chance, as he's interested, known to the club, successful, available & seen as the top choice by the fanbase. If you were looking for the path of least resistance, you'd have him top of your pile....................

Top management is surely about meeting the diffiicult decisions quickly and decisively, and having contingencies in place for when situations arise. Irrespective of the words that Bill defecates from his mouth, he's known Moyes was off for some time.

The current process just smells like your normal BK cock up, pissing off real targets in the meantime, leaving us with Stubbs, or Neville etc. Drinks bleach.

Maybe mate, Whelan could just be looking to push this on, so that he knows where he's batting moving forwards, as of course he'll have to find a replacement & create their plan for life in the Championship, before jetting back to Barbados.

We are waiting for Pereira to let us know if he wants the job,
If he says No Martinez will tell Whelan hes off, if Pereria says yes.
Martinez might stay,

#DaddySauced

A reporter at the echo was on talksport yesterday and said Pereria put his name forward for the job.

So I think it's rather a case of us letting him know he's got the job, than him wanting it!

That Portuguese tabloid have said we have Pereira as a candidate but he has definitely been offered a three year deal at Porto. We should offer him a contract, telling someone they have a chance of a job is no good when he has a solid offer from a big club.

Also, Whelan has apparently promised Martinez work on the academy, which has been something he has requested. let's not forget he has turned Villa and Liverpool down in the past, I wouldn't be surprised if he stays put as well as Pereira. The alternatives speak for themselves :(
