Martinez is an obvious name, because it is accepted that he did a good job at Swansea before leaving for Wigan.
He has kept Wigan in the premiership while being able to only dream about the kind of money spent by David Moyes. At the same time losing his best players as the monies are needed to keep the club afloat and certainly not getting the proceeds of these sales to reinvest.....and of course he will most likely take Wigan into an F.A cup final this season,as we already know.

He may or not get the Everton job,if it becomes available, but that shouldn't stop us recognising the work he has done at Everton.Given the limitations he works under ould David Moyes do any better at Wigan or most other managers including those managing CL teams ?

So head size is now a prerequisite for a manager.

Amazes me how many people would dismiss managers with better records than Moyes (in some cases) based on arbitary nonsense.

Warnock & Big Sam also fall foul of the same criteria, obviously the exception is Big Joe.

I think it's clear some people are having a laugh which is obviously fair enough but I do think it identifies some preconceived ideas on our views on managers.

I've heard people say if Martinez was a rough looking northern former centre half He may be viewed less favourably. Bruce is doing a pretty good job at hull and has done ok ish previously but is obviously and probably rightly dismissed as a candidate whereas Zola has failed probably more dramatically at west ham and is not doing as well in the same division but would almost certainly be the more popular choice of the two . It's weird isnt it ?

If malkay McKay was a 'slick' foreign manager who'd moved to Cardiff and was bringing them promotion having done ok overseas previously would he more likely be on our radar ?

Like I say it's obvious people are having a bit of a laugh but I think there is probably an interesting debate somewhere in there .

Havnt read the whole thread but I dont think anyone is advocating Zola as our next manager. At the end of the day Europe is a far bigger pool of managers so its only natural there would be a fair few European names mentioned.

No they haven't mate that wasn't what I was saying more that in the general wider footballing world (not limited to everton ) there seems to be a slant towards the slicker , cooler Johnny Foreigner type rather than big ugly former centre halves .

Imo big ugly center halves etc turned managers are usually a bit thick in the head. The top game is run by brains these days.

Don't worry lads. I'm boss on footy manager and I want to quit my current job... just waitin on Moyes to walk first...

Laudrup still should be our main target should Moyes leave, followed by IMO Benitez or Martinez (providing he keeps wigan players there)

I presume this is some other, relatively unknown Benitez, currently working abroad (and not in London), that I don't know about??! :o

How many premiership managers are earning in excess of 60k per week, how many managers are earning this much worldwide ?
It may not suit the agenda of some people but nevertheless in football it will be recognised that Bill Kenwright is a very good chairman to work with as a manager...in effect he gives you everything but enough money to spend on players. The majority of managers spend their entire football lives constantly needing more money to spend. There are probably less than a dozen clubs worldwide that can afford to sign any player they want.

So.. a well paid job in the premiership, with a very good squad of players and a supportive chairman that will support you financially as well as the club can afford.
There will be a queue for that job around the corner...if it becomes available.

The decision the board has a number of alternatives to consider
1. Appoint a foreign coach with a good pedigree but no knowledge of the English game.
2. Appoint a highly rated manager already working in the premiership as Liverpool did.The most obvious name being Martinez.
3.An internal appointment with probably Neville or Stubbs getting the job.
4.Repeat the Moyes formula and go back to the lower divisions for a young talented manager.

All option have their risks but that happens with every appointment.

It strikes me that whilst we have spent much of his reign with no money to spend, other than that generated by sales, should Moyes go this summer (or even if not) any incoming manager will have a faily decent pot to work with, and only 1 first team and 1 squad player to replace (Felli and Johnny). Assuming the board would give the incoming manager most of the money from those sales you're looking at £50-55m with the Sky money. That plus the promise that most of the money from future sales can be put towards transfer budget shouldn't be too unattractive a proposition for any candidates, considering the strength of our first 11-14 players...

I can't believe I just read that :o Feel a bit sick

I would rather Rafael than the likes of Big Sam, Bruce and Mccarthy.

End of the day he took a nothing special Liverpool side won them the Champions League and bought them a few good players in, I reckon he's a good manager and proven to be able to win trophies/big games

Sorry, he won the CL with a good team assembled by the penguin and then sold them and bought 60 crap players. He then ruined a good team in Italy and a CL winning Chelsea team.

HE IS SH!T!

who in that Liverpool side apart from Alonso and Gerrard was genuine quality? Luis Garcia, carragher and Riise were decent but nothing special and the others imo were average.

He brought in Torres, Mascherano, Reina, Agger? etc. he also got them 2nd in the table, I dont know the ins and outs of his time at Italy but surely any worse than Mick ma ****ing mccarthy? or mid table bruce/big sam?

oh and Chelsea havent been great for a while now and he hasnt had chance from the start with the chelski fans, add to that the players are a mix of Matteo/AVB and managers before them. End of the day people wouldnt mind him if he never managed the RS.

Benitez...oh hell no, you think he gets grief off chelsea fans imagine what our fans would do. That would well and truly be the final nail in Kenwrights coffin I could see fans causing anarchy if that happened.
