I think vitors biggest draw to us apart from the obvious is I can trust him to draw bigger names than Martinez ever will

I think this is the best point Relegation = failure and nobody who relegates their team should ever be considered for the managers job at EFC FFS!

....in 1987 Nancy were relegated from the French 2nd Division but Monaco recognised the potential of their young coach and appointed him as their Manager in top flight football. In his first season Monaco won the title with a dashing brand of football following the acquisition of the likes of Glen Hoddle on a free transfer. That manager was Arsene Wenger. Relegation might not always = failure where a manager is concerned.

What's the latest on the Stubbs Weir managerial team ?
The bill bashers where supremely confident it was a done deal agreed last week,or was this just a scare mongering exercise,as I suspect.
Hopefully it is Vitor,as the news from our portuguese posters sounds positive.

Odd occasion. Wenger had done that does not mean Martinez can do the same.

There are always exceptions that can be used to prove a rule. Truth is, no one can guarantee how any new manager will do. What we do have to do is make a decision based on things we know. Martinez Premiership record over 4 years is dreadful.

He seems a nice bloke and if he comes then we would give him a chance but I don't see a new Wenger/Klopp etc (managers who have gone down and done well later)

.....fair point. I absolutely agree that no-one can guarantee how any new manager will do but the point I'm making is that it's easy to make sweeping statements (relegation = failure) and a bit more vision is required.

When martinez resigns will people still say he is second choice behind pereira? This is Everton, Bill probably doesn't know who Pereira is. We are going to get a relegated manager.

There was some absolute drivel in the league this season, at least 6 teams deserved to go down, so I'm not concerned about relegation. The problem is that people use the fact that Martinez did so well to try to keep them up as a plus about him whilst ignoring said drivel above and below him.

He keeps having to sell his best players tho, without getting the money to replace them

If that news is genuine, would you pay £5m for Martinez?

Well Martinez wouldn't be my choice. But I want to see Kenwright going for what he sees as the best manager available who has all the qualities to take Everton forward, and while money will always be an issue for us I'd hate to think we were making a decision that was based mainly on cost. £5m is the kind of money we can afford, and should be prepared to pay if necessary to get the right man in place.

Today could be a telling day, one way or another. We should get some news on the movements of both Pereira and Martinez. And Weir or Stubbs, no doubt.
