Categories as far as I can see it:

1. Untried in the Prem, but with European experience: Pereira/Lennon
2. Experienced in the Prem/won something: Martinez/Benitez
3. Untried in the Prem/managerial experience with potential: Mackay/Poyet
4. Rookie manager/Evertonian: Ferguson/Stubbs/Round

What do we need:

Personally I think Prem experience is very important. Not a deal breaker that would rule out category 1 names, but this is one of 2 or 3 best, toughest leagues in the world, with the most money in it. Is the Scottish league a good enough league where domestic success is of value? Ditto, the Portugese league?

A track record of winning something is what we need, if we're to 'kick on', or at the very least, maintain current standards.

A manager with potential is what we appointed when we got Moyes, but the club is in a different place now than it was then. Which I feel rules out category 3 names, and definitely category 4 names. Was Moyes 'an Evertonian' when he came? No, it should not be a factor at all in the appointment process.

For me, I keep coming back to Martinez (even with his relegation, which I can understand people's concerns but would once again cite Joe Royle as a glowing example of someone who worked wonders at a small club, still finished low down in his three years in the top flight before relegation, but showed he had an aptitude to work at a higher level), and Pereira, who I think has a good rep, good piece on him in the Echo today, and the hope that what he doesn't have in Prem experience, he makes up for in new ideas that could take us forward.

Pereira would be more of a gamble than Martinez, but potentially offers more upside.

What's this logic stuff? Nice write up.

By the way - this is all complete BS:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/everton-phil-neville-wanted-coaching-1889668?

Neville is not interested in being a pundit, he wants to be a coach at Utd or Everton (from his own mouth tonight at the fans do, see other thread), and the fact they're making such a big deal of him going should tell you he ain't staying at EFC to be a coach. I suspect it's a done deal for him to go with Moyes to United, but they're obviously not going to announce it yet for obvious (contractual) reasons.

Whilst fully understanding the logic behind that post and wholeheartedly agreeing with it, why would there be "obvious (contractual) reasons" behind not announcing Neville is United bound?

Moyes is wtill tied to us contractually but it dodn't stop them announcing he was leaving.

To be honest lid when you start throwing out the 'you've never had sex' insult on an online forum to people you've never met then you've reached a new low.

Thought you were better than that.

Lighten up lad, you're like an Internet frown - smile every now & again, who knows in time you might even manage a laugh.

P.s. sorry if I hit a nerve lid x

- benitez won't and shouldn't happen here, but if ur judging on cv he has the best and resides in merseyside

i don't want him to happen like

i'm not convinced hiring a manager based purely on their cv would be the best policy. they have to have the right mentality and class to be a everton manager first and foremost, this is what im trying to say. i don't know pereira, never really heard of him, but we shouldnt look to bring someone in jus because theyve won stuff on the continent -- he might be the right candidate for other reasons obviously
