Err I don't think Martinez has.

And lennon?? Seriously; Walter Smith won more than Moyes, should we have him back. Just saying like

Last real trophy Benitez won was the fa cup in 2006 so more than 7 years ago. Since then Martinez has won the Fa Cup. 1-0.

Or if you're counting the club world cup, martinez won the jonstone paint trophy, 2-1.

You could count the italian charity shield too, mind. But martinez won the third division so 3-2.

Rafael won the Italian version of the charity shield and the World Club Cup with Inter. Neither of which he can take much credit for as one of his first games was the Supercopa thingy, and the WCC is sh*te lets be honest.

Martinez won the FA Cup with Wigan ffs.

It can't possibly go wrong mate, not with a steady captain like Kenwright at the helm. Not a chance!

Seriously though I'm about 95% sure the worst we'll finish next season is 8th whoever we sign. And that would mean finishing behind one of West Brom, Swansea, Stoke, West Ham, Newcastle etc...

Also I like sexyfutgol.
I think it's impossible to not warm to sexyfutgol if its played in the right areas of the pitch, with the right components. I mean if I saw Jagielka doing stepovers I'd worry about the sanity of the system. If I saw Mirrallas doing round the worlds before dispatching the ball in the net from a scorpion kick, that would be an improvement.
SAMBA FUTBOL IN!
Joga Bonita or something.

This is where you're going fundamentally wrong, mate...and you're not alone either. The appointment wont be about 'going forward'. Forget what Kenwright said. Its about keeping the plates spinning and retaining PL status and keeping protests off the owner's backs. They're looking for stability not someone who can - against all the odds those clowns stack against a manager - push on to the next level.

What possible reason would stop them wanting a manager who was capable of improving on our current performance?

That's utter pony imo. The parameters won't change i.e. they're not going to suddenly throw shed loads of their own cash at it, but of course they'd fancy the idea of someone who was maybe capable of tweaking what we have in order to make the next step up. To suggest that they'd find any performance improvement as anything other than a positive is proper tin foil hat nads imo.

6+7=13

we are in 2013, minus 7 years is 2006. So its not more than 7 years ago, it is 7 years ago.

And youre comparing the world club championship to the johnstons paint trophey??? clutching much???

The thing is not all trophies are equal.

You spend 250 million to win the fa cup with liverpool and that's simply not as impressive as spending a fiver to win it with wigan.

Simarly beating a bunch of african amateurs with the CL team you inherited is not the same as winning the spanish league with a team you took over when they were in the second flight.

Context matters.

But then you could say you fussing over saying 7 years ago or "more than 7 years ago" is clutching.

But the cup final was last week, so more than 7 years.

The team benitez beat to win that was TP Mazembe from the congo, having beaten Seongnam Ilhwa of south korea to get there. Martinez had to beat Carlisle and Colchester. Honestly I'd take the latter two clubs over the first two.
